What is generic Dermovate-NN?
Generic Dermovate-NN is a strong topical treatment that helps treat conditions like eczema and psoriasis. It contains three active ingredients that each work to treat different problems in your skin. Nystatin, for example, helps fight off fungal infections, whereas clobetasol tackles inflammation. It’s a helpful treatment if you have a skin condition that’s become infected, like infected eczema.
People with eczema are likely to get infections as a result of their skin being damaged, especially when scratched. This is because the skin can break and open, making it prone to bacterial and fungal infections, which can then worsen your eczema.
Discoid eczema is a type of eczema that’s prone to infection. It’s characterised by round circular patches that are swollen and itchy. Without treatment, these patches can become dry, cracked and blistered. This can damage your skin barrier, making it easy for germs to enter. As a result, this can make you sick, unwell, and feverish.[1]
With generic Dermovate NN, you can effectively treat skin infections and eczema symptoms with one product.
How does generic Dermovate-NN work?
Generic Dermovate-NN contains three active ingredients. Each active ingredient works in a different way to tackle different issues:
Clobetasol propionate a strong steroid that helps reduce inflammation by blocking the release of inflammatory cells. This helps lessen swelling. It also helps reduce itching and redness.
Neomycin sulphate – an antibiotic that can fight bacterial infections. It works by inhibiting protein production in bacteria, which stops them from growing. [2]
Nystatin – an antifungal that binds to the fungus, making holes in its membrane. This causes the content of the fungal cells to leak out — eventually killing them.
Is generic Dermovate-NN similar to another treatment?
Dermovate-NN is the branded name of the drug that contains these three active ingredients. The generic (unbranded) version has the name Clobetasol propionate/neomycin sulphate/nystatin 0.5 mg/5 mg/100,000 IU/g, which can be quite lengthy to say and write out. This is why it goes by the simpler name ‘generic Dermovate-NN’.
Both the generic and branded treatments have the same ingredients at the same concentration. The main difference is usually in price, with the generic one often being cheaper. However, Dermovate-NN is no longer available as it’s been discontinued. So, you can now only get the generic version (but don’t worry, it works just as well as the branded one).
