EarCalm Spray is used to treat minor ear infections,^[1] like otitis externa or swimmer’s ear. It’s an antibacterial spray, so it brings down the inflammation in your ear canals. It also relieves the symptoms of otitis externa like itching, pain and discharge.

EarCalm spray also dries out the ear, helping you heal from the infection faster. So it brings fast relief as well as treating the underlying causes. It’s easy to use and contains acetic acid, the recommended treatment for most cases of otitis externa.

Acetic acid is the active ingredient in EarCalm Spray. Acetic acid is an antibacterial agent. When applied to the ear, this ingredient will fight the bacteria that’s causing your ear infection. It stops bacteria and fungi from growing and lowers the pH of your ear canals.

This medication also contains drying agents like glycerine and alcohol, which reduces moisture in your ear canal. Bacteria and fungi thrive in warm, moist conditions which can worsen your condition, so using this treatment will dry the ear canal and aid in clearing up your infection.

What doses of EarCalm Spray are there?

You can purchase EarCalm Spray in 5ml bottles. You should apply one metered dose directly into your infected ear(s) at least three times a day. Leave at least two to three hours between doses of the spray.

When your infection feels like it’s cleared up, you should keep using EarCalm Spray for two more days. You can also use home remedies and painkillers alongside this treatment. A clinician can let you know exactly how long and how often to use EarCalm Spray based on your symptoms.

You should follow these instructions when applying EarCalm Spray to avoid side effects and to ensure maximum benefits from the treatment:

• shake the bottle of EarCalm Spray before use
• if you’re using it for the first time, prime the product by pressing down on the pump about 6-10 times until a fine spray is produced
• point the spray away from you and others when doing this
• place the nozzle tip into your ear and press the pump down to administer the medication
• avoid touching your ear(s) after they’ve been treated so the medicine can fight the infection.
• clean the nozzle tip after using it to keep it free of bacteria and fungi. You can use a tissue for this
• discard the spray 1 month after you’ve first used it

EarCalm Spray is a fast-acting medication and most patients will notice an improvement in their condition shortly after their first dose. It should get rid of your itching, pain, discharge and other symptoms very quickly.

But it’s important to remember that it can take a few days of treatment to clear any kind of infection. So when your symptoms disappear, you should continue treatment for at least two days after you start it to make sure the infection has gone away completely. Don’t use EarCalm for longer than seven days though. If the symptoms haven’t gone away after this time, contact your clinician for advice.

What should I do if I make a mistake when using EarCalm Spray

Don’t use EarCalm Spray for more than seven days. Make sure to only spray it in your ears. If you accidentally spray it in your nose, mouth or eyes, wash them out with clean water and seek medical attention if you have serious symptoms. If you use too much EarCalm Spray, wash and dry your ears and ask a clinician for advice if needed.

If you miss an application, use it as soon as you remember. If it’s nearly time for your next application, skip the missed dose and continue your treatment as normal.
