Ferrograd tablets are iron supplements used to treat anaemia. Anaemia is a lack of red blood cells, often caused by not having enough iron in your blood. It can cause symptoms like tiredness, heart palpitations, pale skin and breathlessness.
Taking Ferrograd tablets boosts your iron levels and helps your body to get back to normal.
Ferrograd tablets have the active ingredient ferrous sulfate, which is a type of iron supplement. So when you take Ferrograd, the iron in it is absorbed by your small intestine and enters your bloodstream.
By raising the iron levels in your body, it helps you make more red blood cells. Red blood cells are essential for helping oxygen travel around your body. So when Ferrograd raises your iron levels to a healthy level, it helps alleviate the symptoms of your anaemia.
Ferrograd tablets come in one dose: 325mg. You take one tablet, once a day. The active ingredient is slowly released over 24 hours, so your iron levels stay stable.
This dose should be enough to control your iron deficiency anaemia. If your symptoms don’t improve, go back to your clinician. They may recommend a treatment like iron infusion, where the iron is put directly into your bloodstream through a drip. They can also check for another condition which might be causing your iron deficiency.
How we source info.
When we present you with stats, data, opinion or a consensus, we’ll tell you where this came from. And we’ll only present data as clinically reliable if it’s come from a reputable source, such as a state or government-funded health body, a peer-reviewed medical journal, or a recognised analytics or data body. Read more in our editorial policy.
Follow your clinician’s advice on how to take Ferrograd tablets. If you have any questions, read the leaflet and ask if you need more guidance.
Ferrograd tablets will start boosting your iron levels right away, but it can take a little while before they reach healthy levels. So your symptoms may not disappear straight away.
If you’ve been taking Ferrograd for a month and your symptoms haven’t improved, go back and talk to your clinician. You may need a stronger treatment, or have an underlying condition affecting your iron absorption.
If you forget to take your tablet at the usual time, just take it when you remember. If you forget to take it for a few days in a row, just start taking it again when you remember.
Don’t take more than one Ferrograd tablet per day, even if you’ve missed some tablets. If you take extra tablets and you experience any worrying symptoms, get advice from a clinician.
