Treatment for anaemia usually comes in the form of either eating more iron-rich foods or taking iron supplements. So in this way, most anaemia treatments will be pretty similar. There are a few other forms of iron supplements though, such as ferrous fumarate and ferrous gluconate.
There’s some evidence to suggest that ferrous sulfate is less likely to cause side effects than ferrous fumarate. Some of the most common side effects of iron supplements are stomach problems like nausea, stomach aches and diarrhoea. So if you have a sensitive stomach, supplements with ferrous sulfate like Ferrograd might be better for you.
Ferrous gluconate is a little different from ferrous sulfate in that it contains a lower concentration of iron. So that might mean you need to take more of it to get the same effects. And finally, ferrous sulfate supplements like Ferrograd are typically more bioavailable than ferrous gluconate (in layman’s terms: they’re easier for your body to absorb).
