Blephademodex is a sterile wipe, impregnated with a lotion containing terpinen-4-ol. It’s free from detergents and preservatives. The wipes can be used every day for conditions like blepharitis, dry eyes and meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD).
Blepharitis is an inflammation of your eyelids, which causes swollen, itchy eyelids. Symptoms often come and go and include sore eyelids, gritty eyes, flakes or crusts (dandruff-like scales) around the roots of the eyelashes, and eyelids that stick together in the morning when you wake up.
It can be caused by either an infection, or allergens and allergic reactions. One underlying cause is infection with a skin parasite called Demodex. While Demodex mites are the most common parasites found on your skin, they can cause itchy, irritated, red or sore eyelids when there’s too many of them. Eyelash dandruff is especially associated with a Demodex infection. But blepharitis isn’t usually serious or contagious.
How does Blephademodex work?
Blephademodex wipes have two active ingredients: terpinen-4-ol and sodium hyaluronate.
Terpinen-4-ol is a natural ingredient extracted from the Australian native plant Melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree oil). It’s used for its anti-inflammatory and anti-demodectic (ability to kill Demodex mites) properties. The anti-inflammatory activity was shown to be linked to the ability of terpinen-4-ol to suppress the production of molecules in your body that promote inflammation like TNFalpha, IL-1beta, IL-8, IL-10 and PGE2.
Sodium hyaluronate is a natural skin-soothing and moisturising agent. It's hydrophilic, which means it loves water and it can mix with it easily. When you apply it on your skin, it attracts moisture to your skin cells and keeps your skin hydrated, making it less dry and flaky.
What doses of Blephademodex are there?
There is only one dose available for Blephademodex wipes. Each pack has 30 sterile wipes, and each Blephademodex wipe is impregnated with a lotion containing 2.5% terpinen-4-ol and sodium hyaluronate.

Here are a few guidelines to follow when using Blephademodex wipes:
Take out your contact lenses before using the wipes.
Open a sachet and unfold the wipe.
Put the wipe on your index finger and wrap it around.
Close your eye and gently apply the pad to your eyelids and the base of your eyelashes.
With small circular motions, gently massage your eyelids to remove any crusts, eyelash dandruff or secretions.
Do the same for the other eye, using a new wipe.
Keep your eye closed for 15 seconds after using the wipe.
Blephademodex is free from detergents, so you don’t need to rinse it off after using the wipes.
How long to use Blephademodex for?

But typically you’ll be instructed to use the wipes for four weeks, either once a day (preferably in the evening) if you have milder symptoms, or twice a day (in the morning and evening) if your symptoms are more severe.
What should I do if I make a mistake when using Blephademodex?
If Blephademodex gets into your eyes and you experience a burning sensation, rinse with water or saline solution. Other than that, using Blephademodex wipes shouldn’t cause you any problems, it’s a generally well tolerated treatment. Are there any alternatives to Blephademodex for blepharitis?

There are many alternative treatments you can try for blepharitis. One example is Blephaclean wipes. Both Blephaclean and Blephademodex contain sodium hyaluronate, but Blephaclean doesn’t have terpineol-4-ol, the active ingredient which has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activity. The addition of terpineol-4-ol in Blephademodex generally makes it more effective in treating blepharitis, but if you’re allergic to it, Blephaclean might be a better option for you.
Other treatments for blepharitis include over the counter eye drops or gels. If your eye infection gets worse, keeps coming back or causes other problems like a cyst (small pocket of fluid under your skin) you may be advised to use antibiotic eyedrops or tablets.
How effective is Blephademodex for blepharitis?

Blephademodex is highly effective in treating blepharitis caused by Demodex. In a study with 49 participants, Blephademodex applied once or twice daily for 29 days significantly improved ocular comfort and reduced eyelid redness. The overall performance of Blephademodex was considered by the investigators as satisfactory/very satisfactory for 95.7% of the participants who used the wipes once a day and 100% for those who used them twice a day. Both treatment regimens were well-tolerated, making Blephademodex an effective choice for treating blepharitis.
Does Blephademodex have any side effects?
Answer:
Blephademodex is generally well tolerated by most people. Like any other medication, Blephademodex has been reported to have some side effects. But they’re usually mild and not everyone gets them. The most common side effect is a burning sensation after use. If you experience this and you’re wearing contact lenses, you should try to avoid wearing them.
