What is Cimizt?
Cimizt is a combined pill containing two hormones that help to stop you getting pregnant. The hormones are synthetic versions of the naturally occurring oestrogen and progesterone, which control the menstrual monthly cycle.
Cimizt is one of a number of combined pills you can get to prevent you from becoming pregnant. The reason there are so many is because everyone is different and reacts to these hormones uniquely. Pills tend to contain slight differences in dosage level, and they may contain different hormones. Some are more weighted towards preventing side effects that you can get from oestrogen, while others towards preventing side effects from progesterone.
Cimizt sits right in the middle. So it’s a helpful alternative for women who get side effects from oestrogen or progesterone.
What is Cimizt used for?
Cimizt is a contraceptive pill. If you take it correctly, it's over 99% effective at stopping pregnancy. It's a reliable form of contraception that's easily reversible. You can stop taking Cimizt any time if you want to get pregnant.
Some women find that taking combined pills like Cimizt can help with menstrual symptoms like heavy bleeding or period pain, and acne too.
How does Cimizt work?
Combined contraceptive pills work in three separate ways to provide a very high level of protection against pregnancy. This way, if one doesn’t work, there’s a fail safe.
Cimizt prevents an egg from being released by tricking the body into thinking it has already ovulated. Without an egg to fertilise, it’s impossible to get pregnant. In the unlikely event that this fails and an egg is released, it thickens the fluid at the entrance of the womb, making it difficult for sperm to reach an egg. It also makes the lining of the womb less hospitable for an egg, so it can’t implant itself there.
