What are Olive Oil Ear Drops?

Olive oil ear drops are an easy to use topical treatment for excess or impacted earwax. You just apply them straight into your ear canals. It helps to soften and break up hardened lumps of wax.

How to use Olive Oil Ear Drops

• Make sure the drops are room temperature before you use them. You can check this by putting them against the skin of your wrist.
• Tilt your head to the side, or lie down on your side.
• Pull your outer ear out and upwards, so you can access your ear canal more easily.
• Fill your inner ear with the drops.
• Massage around your ear canal.
• Wait with your head to the side for five to ten minutes, to allow the drops to travel into your ear canal fully.
• Don’t block your ears with cotton wool after. This can push the wax back into your ears and impact it more.
• Repeat this in the other ear if you want to.

How long does it take Olive Oil Ear Drops to work?

Use olive oil ear drops until your ears clear of wax, usually from a few days to a few weeks. There aren’t really any risks from it, so don’t worry about using it for too long. Once your ears have cleared up, you may want to keep using them once a week to keep your ears healthy and free of earwax. This can be especially helpful for people who are prone to getting impacted earwax, like if you have narrow ear canals or especially dry wax.

What do I do if I make a mistake using Olive Oil Ear Drops?

If you put extra olive oil ear drops in your ear, just wipe away any excess with a clean tissue and throw it away. Make sure not to block your ears with cotton wool or use cotton swabs while you’re treating your earwax. This can just make your symptoms worse, by pushing the wax back into your ears.
