What is Fucidin H?

Fucidin H is a prescription cream used to treat infected eczema or dermatitis, including folliculitis. It combines two ingredients: fusidic acid (an antibiotic) and hydrocortisone acetate (a mild steroid). Together, they target both the infection and the inflammation.

It’s often used to treat bacterial skin infections like infected eczema. For folliculitis, it’s used off-label, especially when the infection has caused your skin to become red, itchy or sore.^[1] “Off-label” simply means that the treatment hasn’t been approved for a specific condition (folliculitis in this case), but doctors still prescribe it because there’s solid evidence that it works.

How does Fucidin H work?

Fucidin H works in two ways:

• Fusidic acid targets and kills the bacteria causing the infection.
• Hydrocortisone acetate reduces redness, itching and swelling caused by inflammation.

This makes it especially useful for conditions like folliculitis, where the hair follicles become irritated and infected at the same time.^[2]

What doses of Fucidin H are there?

Fucidin H comes in a single strength: 2% fusidic acid and 1% hydrocortisone acetate. It’s applied as a cream directly to the affected area, usually two or three times a day.

How to take Fucidin H

Apply a small amount of Fucidin H cream to the affected area twice a day. Gently rub it in. Wash your hands after applying, unless your hands are being treated.

If you don’t see any improvement after a week, stop using the cream and speak to a doctor.

How long does Fucidin H take to work?

In clinical studies, people started to see improvement within a week. One trial found a significant reduction in redness, scaling, and skin cracking after just seven days of use.^[1]

What if I make a mistake while using Fucidin H?

If you forget a dose, just apply it when you remember. If it’s nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on as normal.
Always use the amount of cream directed by your clinician.
