What is Warticon?
Warticon is a treatment for genital warts. It is used to treat warts on the penis or external warts on the vagina.
Warticon cream and solution is used to remove the visible symptoms of genital warts to leave clear skin.
How does Warticon work?
Genital warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and is most common amongst people in their late teens and early 20s.
Warticon contains an active ingredient called Podophyllotoxin, and this attacks the HPV virus and prevents the wart cells from multiplying and causing more warts. The wart cells that already exist are killed and new healthy tissue begins to grow in their place.
This ensures that not only do the warts disappear, but also that new and clear skin grows where they were present so that there is no lasting sign of the warts.
What doses of Warticon are there?
The course of treatment with Warticon cream and solution is the same. Warticon is applied directly to the warts for three days followed by four days without application. This counts as one course of treatment.

How to use Warticon
- Apply Warticon every 12 hours (twice a day) in the morning and evening for three days.
- Do not apply any Warticon for the following four days. This is the end of one course of treatment.
- If you still have warts seven days after you started using Warticon, repeat the course of treatment again.
- A maximum of four courses of treatment can be taken.
- If you still have warts after four courses of treatment, log in to your account and send our clinician a message. They can advise you on alternative medications that are safe and suitable for you.
You should always use Warticon as directed by our clinician. To apply Warticon:
- wash the infected area with soap and water
- dry the area gently with a towel
- rub the cream directly onto the wart with your fingertips. Be careful not to get the cream on the healthy skin around the wart. If this does happen, wash the cream off immediately
- wash your hands thoroughly after applying Warticon
- don’t put a plaster or dressing over the area to which you’ve applied Warticon
- Warticon is for external use only. Don’t apply to the inside of the penis, vagina or rectum
- don’t apply Warticon to warts that are bleeding or to an area with broken skin
Genital warts are contagious. You should avoid having sex whilst you have genital warts because you could pass them on to your partner. If you do have sex during your course of treatment you should use a condom. It’s also important not to apply Warticon before having sex as it could cause skin irritation for your partner.
How long does it take Warticon to work?
The length of treatment varies from person to person. The severity of the infection and number of warts can have an impact on the treatment time. Some people only need to take one course of treatment whereas others need to repeat the course several times. A repeated course of treatment can last five weeks. You should get in touch with our clinician if your warts don’t clear up after five weeks.
What should I do if I make a mistake using Warticon ?
Getting into a routine is the best way to avoid making a mistake when taking Warticon. Many people find it useful to keep the treatment in the bathroom so that they remember to use it after a bath or shower. If you apply more cream than you should, wipe the excess cream from the area and seek advice from our clinician. If you forget to apply Warticon you should apply it as soon as you remember. Never use a double dose. If you get Warticon in your eyes you should rinse your eyes with clean water and seek medical advice. If you get Warticon in your mouth, rinse your mouth with water immediately. If you accidentally swallow Warticon see your clinician or go to the hospital straight away. Take the Warticon cream with you.
