Simple tablet treatment for Labyrinthitis.
You can take Stemetil on demand to treat conditions that cause vertigo, like BPPV, Ménière’s disease, vestibular neuritis and labyrinthitis.
If you struggle with vertigo attacks, we can help. Get them under control when you order Stemetil online with Treated.
Stemetil is a tablet that treats vertigo. It’s used for a few different conditions that cause vertigo, like benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), Ménière's disease, vestibular neuritis and labyrinthitis.
It helps you manage your symptoms, like dizziness, nausea and being unsteady on your feet. You just swallow it a few times a day to get your vertigo under control.
Stemetil comes in 5mg tablets. Some people take one when they feel an attack coming on, as it can help stop feelings of nausea. If you’re taking it daily to manage your condition, you’ll usually start by taking one 5mg tablet three times a day.
Once you’ve adjusted to the medicine, your clinician might raise your daily dose. The highest daily dose is usually 30mg. Your dose is often then lowered slowly when your condition is managed, until you reach a maintenance dose of 5-10mg a day.
If you’re taking Stemetil for vestibular neuritis, you’ll usually just need to take it to control your vertigo until your inflammation has healed.
Only change your dose on the advice of your clinician. If you order through us, we’ll check in with you during treatment to see how things are going. If your dose needs adjusting, one of our experts will walk you through it.
How we source info.
When we present you with stats, data, opinion or a consensus, we’ll tell you where this came from. And we’ll only present data as clinically reliable if it’s come from a reputable source, such as a state or government-funded health body, a peer-reviewed medical journal, or a recognised analytics or data body. Read more in our editorial policy.
Stemetil should be taken as advised by our clinicians. Depending on the condition, the clinicians will tell you what dose to take and when to take it.
Stemetil tablets start to work within 30-60 minutes for most conditions. However, for Ménière's disease, it can take several days before it reaches its full effect.
Don’t stop taking Stemetil until our clinicians have told you to stop. Even if you do feel better, continue to take it. This is to prevent your illness from returning and to avoid causing withdrawal symptoms such as feeling or being sick and sleepiness. Our clinicians will gradually reduce your dosage before stopping it in order to help prevent withdrawal symptoms.
Don’t worry if you miss a dose of Stemetil. Simply take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it’s nearly time for the next dose. In that case, skip it. Do not take a double dose.
If you accidentally take an extra dose of Stemetil or more than prescribed, go to the A&E immediately. Taking a higher dosage than usual may cause the following symptoms:
To avoid experiencing any of the above symptoms, always take Stemetil as advised.

Do you need a prescription for Stemetil?
Answer:Yes. Stemetil is not available over the counter and can only be purchased with a prescription. To ensure it’s safe and suitable for you, our clinicians will need to check your consultation before prescribing it.Is there a drug similar to Stemetil?
Answer:Yes. Prochlorperazine is the generic version of Stemetil. They both contain the same active ingredient, only the price and dosage are different. The generic version is usually cheaper and comes in 3mg (typically used for nausea related to migraines) and 5mg.How is Stemetil different from other drugs?
Answer:Betahistine and antihistamine can also be used to treat BPPV, Meniere’s Syndrome and Labyrinthitis. Antihistamines work by suppressing your vestibular system which can help to relieve problems such as nausea and vertigo. Betahistine also targets the histamine receptors but works slightly differently from antihistamines.
While all 3 types of medication can be taken to treat BPPV, Meniere’s Syndrome, and Labyrinthitis, some may work better. Depending on your symptoms and underlying cause, you can choose the treatment you prefer. Can I drink alcohol when taking Stemetil?

Answer:As with all medicines, Stemetil can also cause side effects which some people may be affected by. It’s common to feel drowsy or sleepy after taking it. If this occurs, don’t drive, use power tools or machinery. When you first start a course of Stemetil, your body will not be used to taking it. Once your body adjusts to the medication this side effect should stop. Why should I buy Stemetil with Treated?
