- Group 1 received 5% permethrin cream twice, one week apart.
- Group 2 received a single dose of oral ivermectin, another anti-scabies medication.
The results were taken at weeks two and four. The results showed a single dose of ivermectin had a cure rate of 62.4%, which increased to 92.8% with two doses of ivermectin at a two-week interval. Two application treatments with Permethrin were 96.9% effective, with patients also recovering sooner.
The results were similar to a different study comparing permethrin and ivermectin. In this study, individuals treated with Permethrin achieved a higher clinical cure rate in the fourth week, reaching 95%, whereas patients receiving single and double doses of ivermectin had a slightly lower rate of 90%.
These results show that Permethrin can be considered to be a reliably effective treatment for scabies.
