What is the Onbrez Breezhaler?

The Onbrez Breezhaler is a type of medication used to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It comes as a capsule which is inserted into an inhaler. The inhaler then punctures the Onbrez capsule and releases a powder that can then be inhaled.

The treatment is only available as a prescription, so can’t be bought over the counter.

How does the Onbrez Breezhaler work?

The active ingredient in Onbrez Breezhaler is indacaterol. Indacaterol is classed as an ultra long-acting beta-adrenoceptor agonist (ultra-LABA) inhaler. This works by relaxing the muscles that surround your airways, which lessens the symptoms of COPD and makes it easier for you to breathe.

What doses of Onbrez Breezhaler are there?

There are two doses of Onbrez Breezhaler available: a lower dose of 150 micrograms and a higher, 300 microgram one. The dosage that you are prescribed will depend on the severity of your symptoms. Whichever dose you’re prescribed, you’ll only need to take the treatment once a day.

How to use the Onbrez Breezhaler

Your prescriber should run through these steps before you receive your medication. If you have any questions or doubts whilst using the treatment, then you can always refer to your patient information leaflet.

Follow the below steps to use Onbrez Breezhaler:

1. Pull off the cap and open your inhaler.
2. Remove your Onbrez Breezhaler capsule from the blister.
3. Insert the capsule into your inhaler. Make sure to never insert it into the mouthpiece.
4. Pierce the capsule. You can do this by holding your inhaler upright and pressing on both side buttons at the same time. You should hear a noise as the capsule is pierced. Once the noise is heard, release the buttons. Make sure to only pierce the capsule once.
5. Breathe out fully, put the inhaler in your mouth and then take a deep breath. Make sure that your lips are firmly around the mouthpiece and do not push either of the two buttons on the side.
6. Breathe in quickly and deeply. You may taste the medicine and hear a whirring noise. Hold your breath for up to five seconds.
7. Open your inhaler and check that there is no powder left in the capsule. If there is, then close the inhaler and repeat steps five and six.
8. Try to repeat this process around the same time each day. ^[1]

How long does it take for the Onbrez Breezhaler to work?

You should feel some instant relief when you use your inhaler. After that, this treatment should continue to reduce your symptoms for the rest of the day.

What should I do if I make a mistake when using the Onbrez Breezhaler?

If you miss your daily dose, there’s no need to double-dose to make up for a missed amount. . If you’ve taken too much then you should contact a clinician immediately. You should thoroughly read your patient leaflet before starting your treatment to ensure that you’re using it safely.
