What is Ultibro Breezhaler?

Ultibro Breezhaler is a long-acting treatment for COPD symptoms. It’s an inhaler that uses a powdered capsule (containing two medicines) to help widen your airway passages, allowing you to breathe more easily.

Bronchodilators are commonly prescribed to people who have respiratory conditions including chronic bronchitis, emphysema and asthma. They work by targeting the smooth muscles in the bronchioles (air tubes) of the lungs.

How does Ultibro Breezhaler work?

Ultribro contains two active ingredients that work together to improve the air supply to your lungs. Indacaterol belongs to a group of medications called long-acting-beta-agonists (LABAs) which are involved in relaxing airway smooth muscle, while glycopyrronium bromide is a well tolerated muscarinic (involved in involuntary responses such as muscle contraction) antagonist that works quickly.

In simple terms, both medications work by reducing inflammation, relaxing the muscles in your lungs and widening your airways. Using Ultibro Breezhaler daily can counteract the symptoms of COPD, including coughing, wheezing, excessive phlegm and a tight feeling in your chest. If you suffer from shortness of breath (also called dyspnea), it’s also a telltale sign that you might have a COPD-related condition.

What doses does Ultibro Breezhaler come in?

Each dose of your Breezhaler contains 85 mcg (micrograms) of indacaterol, and 43 mcg of glycopyrronium. It’s a single dose inhaler, so you’ll only need to use it once each day. This should be enough to relieve your symptoms and keep your COPD well managedl.

The capsules that are inserted into your inhaler contain lactose, so if you’re lactose intolerant you’ll need to look at other treatment options.

How to use your Ultibro Breezhaler

Ultibro Breezhaler is easy to use. A pack should contain your inhaler, and a blister pack containing capsules.

1. First, take the cap off and open the inhaler. Insert a capsule, and then close it.
2. By pressing both side buttons at the same time, you should be able to pierce the capsule. You only need to pierce it once, and you’ll hear a noise when you have. Release the side buttons.
3. Breathe out fully
4. Holding the mouthpiece between your lips, inhale as quickly and deeply as you can.
   You should hear a whirring noise.
5. Hold your breath for 5 seconds
6. Open the inhaler to check the capsule is empty, then remove it.

What should I do if I make a mistake taking Ultibro Breezhaler?

You’ll use your inhaler once a day, and when you decide to take it is entirely up to you. It might be helpful to be consistent though, such as having a puff first thing in the morning. You could set an alarm so you’re in a routine and you don’t miss a dose.

If you do forget to use your Breezhaler at the usual time, you can take it when you like as long as you stick to using it once only.

Using more medication than you need can make you seriously ill. If you know you have used your inhaler too much, go to hospital immediately and bring any details of your medications you can with you.
