To order Fifty:50, answer a few questions online, and our clinicians will recommend a list of treatments right for you
Fifty:50 is an ointment that can help treat dry skin. It only contains two ingredients: liquid paraffin and soft paraffin. Together, they create a barrier to prevent water loss from your skin's surface and help moisturise your skin. It’s used to treat dermatitis, the general term for skin conditions with inflammation, like atopic eczema, photodermatitis and seborrheic dermatitis.
Photodermatitis is an inflammatory condition caused by sun sensitivity. While everyone’s sensitive to the sun to some extent (resulting in sunburned skin), for others, it can be more serious. Sun exposure to them can result in skin patches that are red, itchy and inflamed. You can treat photodermatitis using a combination of steroids and emollients.
Fifty:50 contains only two ingredients: liquid paraffin and soft paraffin. While both ingredients come from the same source, their chemical compositions are different, resulting in different forms and properties.
When liquid paraffin is applied to your skin, it forms a physical barrier, which helps prevent water loss by evaporation. It also locks in moisture and protects it from things like windy and dry conditions. This prevents dry skin and leaves it feeling hydrated. Soft paraffin can also help prevent water loss by adding a layer of oil to your skin's surface. And lastly, the thicker consistency makes your skin soft, moisturised and supple.
Using Fifty:50 can help restore your skin’s barrier function, which is often damaged by eczema or dermatitis. This barrier can also prevent the entry of germs, therefore reducing infections.
How we source info.
When we present you with stats, data, opinion or a consensus, we’ll tell you where this came from. Apply the cream to your affected skin regularly, at least twice a day. This will make sure your skin is constantly hydrated and moisturised. If you use it as an emollient, you should apply the cream in a downward motion rather than rubbing it in, as this can worsen your symptoms. It's also best to apply it straight after a bath or shower to help lock in moisture. This will help to ease symptoms like dry and itchy skin. If you’re using a medicated product, like steroids, apply that first and, after 15 minutes, apply the moisturiser.
If you're using this as a bath additive, just dissolve it in some hot water. After your bath, just give your skin a gentle pat with a clean towel.
And if you're using it as a skin cleanser, just use it whenever you're washing up or taking a shower.
The time it takes to treat dry and inflamed skin varies for everybody. This is because it depends on the severity of your condition. Treating severely dry skin will take longer than mildly dry skin. And how often you apply it makes a difference too. Applying it more regularly can help restore your skin barrier function quicker, resulting in faster treatment.
