What is Jentadueto?
Jentadueto is a combination treatment for type-2 diabetes that works to reduce your blood sugar levels. It’s a tablet that you’ll usually take twice a day, containing two active ingredients that work together to lower your blood sugar: linagliptin, a DPP-4 inhibitor; and metformin - one of the most commonly prescribed treatments for diabetes.
Type-2 diabetes is a condition that you usually develop in adulthood. It usually leads to high concentrations of sugar in your bloodstream (hyperglycemia) which, over time, can lead to an increased risk of you developing further health problems. The hyperglycemia caused by type-2 diabetes is caused by your body no longer producing enough insulin (a key hormone for digesting the sugar that you eat) and your cells losing sensitivity to insulin.
How does Jentadueto work?
Jentadueto’s two active ingredients work together to both encourage your pancreas to secrete more insulin and improve the way that your body uses the insulin it does produce.
Linagliptin blocks the breakdown of incretin hormones in your body - which stimulate your pancreas to produce insulin when you eat. By prolonging the ‘life’ of these hormones, your pancreas produces insulin for longer, which helps your body to continue to store the sugar in your body.
Metformin mainly works by inhibiting glucose production and reducing its reabsorption in the gut. Together, these two active ingredients work together to lower your blood sugar levels and increase your insulin production.
What doses of Jentadueto are there?
Jentadueto is available in two doses. Both doses contain 2.5mg of linagliptin, but the lower dose treatment contains 850mg of metformin, whereas the higher dose treatment contains 1,000mg of metformin.
Our clinician will recommend the best dose for you based on your condition and your health.
