What are Sno-Tears Eye Drops?

Sno-Tears eye drops were a type of treatment for dry eyes known as artificial tears. They provided the lubrication your dry eyes are missing.^[1]This got rid of any discomfort, giving your eyes what they need to be comfortable and work properly.

When you have dry eyes, your eyes aren’t making the tears they need properly. Sno-Tears could step in and help out, getting your eyes back to normal again.

Sno-Tears have been discontinued by the manufacturer in the UK, but alternatives are available.

How do Sno-Tears Eye Drops work?

Sno-Tears eye drops contained 1.4% of polyvinyl alcohol. They worked by acting as a replacement for the amount of tears your eyes should make normally. If your eyes aren’t producing enough tears, it can be uncomfortable or painful. It also means the surface of your eyes aren’t protected properly, so they can be more vulnerable to damage.

Sno-Tears soothed any soreness coming from your dry eyes. They gave them the lubrication they need to ease your symptoms, as well as protecting your eyes.

What doses of Sno-Tears Eye Drops are there?

Sno-Tears eye drops only came in one strength, but how often you were advised to use them could vary based on your symptoms. You would generally use them several times a day, or whenever you needed to.

You could keep using Sno-Tears until your eyes feel better. If it’s been more than a week and you still have dry eyes without knowing the reason, talk to your clinician. There may be an underlying cause, or you may need another treatment.

How to use Sno-Tears Eye Drops

Always follow your clinician’s advice on using Sno-Tears eye drops.

• Wash and dry your hands carefully before using Sno-Tears;
• Twist the cap off the bottle;
• Look upwards while gently pulling down your lower eyelid with your non-dominant hand;
• With your other hand, point the dropper of the Sno-Tears bottle just above your eye and squeeze the bottle gently to release the drops into your eye;
• Let go of your lower eyelid and move your eye to allow the liquid to spread across the surface;
• Repeat with the other eye if needed;
• Replace the cap on the bottle.

How long does it take Sno-Tears Eye Drops to work?

You should keep using Sno-Tears eye drops until your eyes are working normally again. There aren’t really any risks to using Sno-Tears long term, but you should talk to a clinician if your eyes haven’t got better after a week of using them.

What do I do if I make a mistake using Sno-Tears Eye Drops?

If you use too much Sno-Tears, just blink away any excess. It shouldn’t cause any serious harm. If you forget to use Sno-Tears eye drops at your usual time, just use them when you remember. If you’re using other eye drops at the same time as Sno-Tears, leave at least 15 minutes between using these and your other eye drops. Use Sno-Tears last.

If you wear contact lenses, take them out before using Sno-Tears and wait for 15 minutes before you put them back in, so the drops can have the best possible effect. It’s best not to wear contact lenses while using Sno-Tears at all, as an ingredient in Sno-Tears can break them down. Contact lenses also make your eyes more dry. Don’t touch your eye with the dropper when you’re using Sno-Tears eye drops. If you do, make sure to clean it with lots of clean water afterwards.
