Like with any medicine, side effects are possible with Finasteride + Minoxidil Drops. That doesn’t mean you’ll get any though — and many people don’t.
The most common side effects (affecting up to 1 in 10 people) are:
- Headache
- Itching
- Hirsutism (unwanted or excessive non-scalp hair growth)
If you experience either of the following, stop using the treatment straight away and ask for urgent medical help:
- Chest pain
- Swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue or throat, which might make it hard to breathe or swallow
There have been rare reports of people getting sexual side effects while taking finasteride, such as reduced libido, erectile dysfunction and ejaculation problems. These side effects are usually temporary, but occasionally they persist beyond treatment, and have only been seen in people taking the oral (tablet) form of finasteride.
It’s yet to be seen if these same effects can occur in those using topical finasteride, but because the treatment only works locally, it’s thought that they might not. A recent trial found that side effects of topical finasteride tended to remain local to the application site, such as itching, burning and irritation on the scalp.
