Derbac M is an insecticide. It comes in liquid form so you can easily apply it to your scalp and deal with head lice. It’s an effective treatment for head lice, and it’s sometimes used for pubic lice and scabies infestations.
Head lice are very common, especially in young children and their families. Derbac M can effectively kill both the lice and their eggs, to stop them from coming back. Because it’s not a daily treatment and you don’t need to rinse your hair afterwards, it’s convenient too.
Derbac M contains 0.5% of the active ingredient malathion. Malathion is a type of insecticide medication. It’s one of a group of insecticides called acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, that work by blocking the action of the enzyme cholinesterase.
Head lice, pubic lice, scabies and other parasites need the cholinesterase enzyme to survive and reproduce. So the malathion in Derbac M quickly suffocates the insects, killing them and stopping their eggs from growing into adult lice.
Derbac M comes as a liquid with 0.5% of malathion. You just use enough to cover your whole scalp, and you’re done. Usually, you’ll only need to apply it to your scalp once a week for two weeks, or until the lice are gone. You generally shouldn’t use Derbac M for more than three weeks.
If the head lice are still there after three weeks, go back to your clinician for advice. If you’re using our service, you can just message us through your account and we’ll help you out. Make sure to treat everyone in your household, so you don’t get another infestation after you’ve been treated.

When we present you with stats, data, opinion or a consensus, we’ll tell you where this came from. Follow your clinician’s advice when using Derbac M to get the best possible results. There are also some general tips for using it.
Derbac M usually gets rid of head lice and their eggs in two weeks, and you only need to apply it once a week. Many of the lice and eggs should be removed with the first application of Derbac M.
But if you’ve been using it for three weeks and you still have head lice, speak to your clinician. You can also log into your account and message our clinicians if you ordered from us. We can give you advice on what to do next, and offer different solutions for head lice.
If you forget to use Derbac M when you’re supposed to, just apply it when you remember. It’s important to make sure you don’t get any in your eyes, as it may sting. You can make sure you avoid this by covering your eyes while you apply Derbac M. If you accidentally do get some in your eyes, rinse them with plenty of clean water.
Derbac M isn’t highly toxic, but to be safe you should seek immediate medical attention if you swallow some by accident. Try to avoid getting it near your mouth and nose when applying. Don’t use it if you have broken skin on your scalp.
