Lyclear Creme Rinse is an effective insecticide. It comes as a light orange coloured cream for easy application on the scalp. The active ingredient, permethrin, kills insects such as head lice and their eggs. Lyclear Creme Rinse is suitable for adults and children over 6 months of age. This also applies to patients with asthma, who may have experienced asthma attacks triggered by other treatments. Also on the plus side, Lyclear Creme Rinse has a pleasant fragrance.
Head lice infestations are very common. Much like the common cold, most people will experience one at some stage in their lives. They can affect anyone, particularly school-age children between four and 11 years old.
Head lice are small insects that are around 3mm long when fully grown. They thrive in warm human hair, regardless of its type or cleanliness. Because they need warmth to survive, head lice mostly live on or near your scalp, gripping onto the hair with specialised claws and feeding on blood. Head lice are transmitted through direct head-to-head contact and do not jump or fly. So it’s unlikely for them to be passed on through things like towels, combs or hats. The bites, saliva, and droppings from head lice can cause your scalp to feel itchy and uncomfortable.
Permethrin, the active ingredient in Lyclear Crème Rinse, works by affecting the sodium transport in the nerve cells of lice, mites, and their eggs. This causes their muscles to stop working and leads to paralysis, including respiratory paralysis (they can no longer breathe properly and they suffocate). Permethrin belongs to a class of synthetic neurotoxic medicines called pyrethroids.
Lyclear Crème Rinse is available as a cream containing 1% permethrin. Each pack consists of one or two 59ml bottles. Usually, one bottle of Lyclear Creme Rinse is enough to treat someone with average shoulder-length hair. If the hair is thicker or longer, you may need a little bit more. However, it's unlikely that you’ll use two bottles for one treatment.
Inside the pack you'll also find a comb with fine teeth, which you’ll use to get rid of lice and eggs from your hair after using the cream.

It’s important to follow your doctor's advice when using Lyclear Crème Rinse to make sure you get the best results. A few general instructions are:
Here are the steps you typically need to follow to use Lyclear Creme Rinse safely:
If living lice are still found after 7-10 days of treatment, repeat the application. Consult your clinician if living lice persist after 14-20 days for possible alternative treatments. If one family member needs treatment, it's important to check the rest of the family for head lice, but only treat those who have them.
In most cases, Lyclear Crème Rinse only takes one application (10 minutes) to get rid of head lice. It's important to note that lice might still be active and moving for up to 24 hours after treatment, but this is normal and doesn't mean it hasn’t worked.
It's also important to check if live lice are still present on your scalp after 7-10 days. This is because it takes around 7 days for lice to hatch from their eggs, and some may survive the initial treatment. If you do find live lice, apply the treatment a second time. If you’re still finding live lice 7 days after your second application, speak to your clinician; repetitive treatments should be avoided.
If you’ve placed an order with us, you can access your account to ask our clinicians any questions you may have. We’re always available to give you advice on the next steps of your treatment and suggest alternative solutions.
If you accidentally get some Lyclear Crème Rinse in your eyes, rinse them with plenty of clean water. If you happen to apply too much Lyclear Creme Rinse, just rinse off the excess with running water.
If you or someone else accidentally swallowed the contents of the bottle, seek immediate medical advice from your doctor or visit the nearest A&E Department.
