Driclor solution is a roll-on treatment for hyperhidrosis - a condition that causes excessive sweating due to the overstimulation of sweat glands. You can apply Driclor solution to your armpits, hands and feet, which are the most commonly affected areas.
How does Driclor solution work?
Driclor solution is a strong antiperspirant treatment that contains the active ingredient aluminium chloride hexahydrate. This active ingredient binds the water molecules on the surface of your skin, building a barrier across your sweat glands. This stops excessive sweat from leaving your sweat glands.
What doses of Driclor solution are there?
Driclor solution contains 20% of the active ingredient aluminium chloride, but you might need to apply it more or less per day, depending on your symptoms and the advice of our clinician.
But it does come in different sizes. You can get a small 20ml bottle, a medium 60ml bottle, or the largest one at 75ml. Which one is suitable for you will depend on how long you’re going to be treated for. If you’re going for short-term treatment, or want to try the medication before you commit to a larger bottle, the 20ml one will be the best option for you. If you want long-term treatment, you can either pick the 60ml or 75ml bottle.

How to use Driclor solution
You should always follow the advice of our clinician, as well as the instructions in the package information leaflet that comes with your treatment, when using Driclor solution.
To use Driclor solution:
make sure that the area where you’re applying Driclor solution is completely dry, to avoid burning and irritation
when you first start using Driclor solution: apply it once-a-day, right before bed, for the best possible results
once your hyperhidrosis gets better, you can lower your dosage and use Driclor solution just once or twice a week
apply the roll-on to your skin like you would with a regular deodorant
keep using your normal deodorant, as well as Driclor solution, if you want (as Driclor isn’t a deodorant and doesn’t contain any perfume)
How long does Driclor solution take to work?
Driclor solution starts working relatively quickly. You should start to see some improvement in your hyperhidrosis within a week or two of starting treatment.
If it’s been over three weeks and you’ve yet to notice any benefit, you should ask our clinician for advice on how to proceed. Our clinicians should be able to advise you on how to get more out of your treatment, or offer an alternative treatment that might suit you better.
What should I do if I make a mistake when using Driclor solution?
You shouldn’t use Driclor solution on dry, unbroken skin - this might result in a burning sensation. If that happens, wash the area with plenty of water and try again once it’s dry and the burning sensation has stopped.
Driclor solution is to be used topically only. If you accidentally apply it to your eyes, mouth, or nostrils, rinse well with water.
If you use too much Driclor or swallow it, it shouldn’t be dangerous, but contact your clinician either way if you’re worried. The toxicity level is low, and adverse effects are only observed when large doses are taken.

Have something specific you want to know? Search our info below, or ask our experts a question if you can’t find what you’re looking for.
Is Driclor solution similar to any other treatments?
Answer:
There are other treatments containing the same active ingredient as Driclor solution (aluminium chloride). For example, Anhydrol Forte and Perspirex contain the same dosage of the active ingredient, and should all work in a similar way. You can also buy products with a different dosage of aluminium chloride hexahydrate.
But Anhydrol Forte and Perspirex may contain different non-active ingredients from Driclor solution, meaning one product might suit your skin better than the others. So if you’re sensitive to one then you might get on better with one of the others without missing out on the benefits. These treatments might also vary in price, packaging and size.
How is Driclor solution different to other treatments for hyperhidrosis?
Answer:
Driclor solution is typically cheaper and less invasive than other similarly effective treatments for hyperhidrosis, such as iontophoretic treatment. This kind of treatment requires you to place the affected areas in water, which will then have an electric current passed through them.
The iontophoretic treatment isn’t suitable for some people, namely those who have a pacemaker, are pregnant, or are below the age of twelve. In those cases, topical treatments such as Driclor solution are usually advised.
How much Driclor should I use?
Answer:
Usually you’ll start by using Driclor solution once-a-day. But with repeated use Driclor will cause changes to your skin on a molecular level, meaning that over time you’ll produce less sweat - even if you start using Driclor solution less often.
But, as time passes and new skin cells grow, this will eventually change and you might have to return to your once-a-day regime.
How effective is Driclor solution?
Answer:
Driclor solution is a very effective treatment for hyperhidrosis. Studies have shown that treatments containing aluminium chloride hexahydrate are considered the most effective treatments, so these are usually the most commonly prescribed.
