Potent steroid to calm inflammation.
Mometasone is an off-label treatment for keloid scars. It’s a potent topical steroid that can help reduce inflammation and itching.
If you want to reduce the appearance of your keloids, order Momerasone by answering a few questions about your health. We’ll then deliver it straight to your door with free delivery.
Mometasone is a topical steroid that can lessen inflammation and itching. It usually treats other skin conditions, like dermatitis and eczema, but it can be used off-label for keloid scars too. Off-label just means the medicine isn’t used for its intended purpose mentioned in the patient leaflet. Your clinician will only prescribe it to you if they think it's safe and effective for you to use.
Keloids are scars that form as a result of abnormal healing. In the normal healing process, collagen helps form new skin by creating scaffolding for other cells to work on. However, the scaffolding process in keloids is unregulated. This results in excess growth and a wound that’s larger than the wound site. Steroids like Mometasone can help lessen the inflammation caused by excess collagen.
Mometasone is a topical steroid that has anti-inflammatory and antipruritic (anti-itch) properties. The exact way it works isn't fully understood yet, but some studies suggest it alters your genes to produce anti-inflammatory molecules. It also inhibits the production of inflammatory molecules. This helps lessen swelling, which helps flatten your keloid scars.
Additionally, it reduces itching which helps reduce any irritation and discomfort you might experience. This can also prevent keloid flare-ups, as even a minor scratch can irritate a keloid.
There are two types of Mometasone products available: creams and ointments. Although both function in the same way, ointments are thicker than creams, making them more effective at delivering the drug to the targeted site.
How we source info.
When we present you with stats, data, opinion or a consensus, we’ll tell you where this came from. And we’ll only present data as clinically reliable if it’s come from a reputable source, such as a state or government-funded health body, a peer-reviewed medical journal, or a recognised analytics or data body. Read more in our editorial policy.
Wash your hands before applying the cream or ointment. Apply a thin layer of product on the affected area and gently rub it in. After applying, wash your hands again, unless they’re part of the treated area. When you want to stop using Mometasone, let your clinician know. They’ll gradually lower your dose to make sure you won’t get any withdrawal symptoms.
Your clinician will let you know how often and long you’ll need to apply it for. This will vary from person to person depending on how severe your keloid is.
If you accidentally apply too much it shouldn't cause any side effects. However, if you’re worried, you can contact your clinician for medical advice.
If you forget to apply a dose, apply it as soon as you remember, unless it’s close to your next scheduled dose. In that case, skip the missed dose.
This will be different for everyone. If your keloid scar is fairly new (only a couple of weeks old), and is small, it will take faster to treat than a larger scar that’s been there for longer. Also, topical steroids aren’t generally used to treat an old scar, so your clinician might recommend another treatment.
