Tretinoin + Niacinamide is a topical treatment that helps treat hyperpigmentation and melasma.

Tretinoin + Niacinamide can help speed up this process:

  • Tretinoin increases cell turnover; it replaces old skin with new skin cells. This helps fade hyperpigmentation, soothes the skin’s texture and creates a youthful appearance.
  • Niacinamide reduces hyperpigmentation by reducing inflammation and controlling excess melanin production.[2]

Additionally, both ingredients can prevent future pigmentation and overall improve skin health.

What doses of Tretinoin + Niacinamide are there?

You can get Tretinoin + Nicinamide in four different doses:

  • Tretinoin 0.1% + Niacinamide 4%
  • Tretinoin 0.05% + Niacinamide 4%
  • Tretinoin 0.025% + Niacinamide 4%
  • Tretinoin 0.0125% + Niacinamide 4%

You’ll usually start on the lowest doses to prevent side effects and work your way up as and when needed.

How to use Tretinoin + Niacinamide

Evening routine: Apply a small amount of Tretinoin + Niacinamide cream and gently rub it into your skin. After allowing it to absorb for a few minutes, apply your moisturiser on top.

Morning routine: Always apply sunscreen during the day, as your skin might get more sensitive to sunlight while using Tretinoin + Niacinamide. Skipping sunscreen may also worsen your hyperpigmentation.

If you have sensitive skin, consider building up your tolerance gradually. Start by applying the treatment three times a week, then increase it to daily use once you feel comfortable.

How long does Tretinoin + Niacinamide take to work?

It can take a few weeks to notice a visible improvement in your skin after starting Tretinoin + Niacinamide.

Although it’s uncommon, some individuals might experience a ‘purge’ during the first few weeks. A purge is when dirt and oil are brought to the surface of your skin, making your skin temporarily worse before it improves.

What should I do if I apply too much Tretinoin + Niacinamide?

If you accidentally apply too much, just wash off the excess amount and reapply. Don’t use more than the recommended amount especially if you have sensitive skin. Using too much may cause skin irritation.
