What is Imigran?

Imigran is a medication that helps stop a migraine before it gets worse. The active ingredient in Imigran is sumatriptan. You take it when you first experience an aura or feel a migraine coming. You can get it as a nasal spray or as an oral tablet.

A migraine is a headache characterised by throbbing pain, sensitivity to light and sound, nausea, and vomiting. It can be debilitating, preventing many sufferers from carrying on with their daily lives. Some people experience an aura prior to the onset of their migraines. An aura can cause you to see flashes of light, feel a tingling sensation on your face, or even make it hard for you to speak.

How does Imigran work?

Sumatriptan, the active ingredient in Imigran, belongs to a class of drugs called serotonin agonists. These drugs interact with the serotonin receptors on the blood vessels in your brain to make them narrow. ^[1] This stops the pain and other symptoms associated with your migraine.

You can’t take Imigran to prevent a migraine. Instead, this medication is taken to stop migraine symptoms after they’ve started. Depending on the method of application, your migraine should disappear quickly.

What doses of Imigran are there?

Imigran nasal spray is available in two doses: 10mg and 20mg. Tablets of Imigran Radis are also available in two doses: 50mg and 100mg. Most people can manage migraine symptoms with the lower dose for each type of Imigran. If your symptoms don’t go away completely with one application of the lower dose, our clinician may recommend the higher dose to treat your migraines.

How to use Imigran

The way you use Imigran depends on whether you have the spray or the tablet. Either way, it’s easy and convenient.

Imigran spray instructions

Imigran nasal spray comes in single dose packaging. Only take it when you feel a migraine coming on. To take it, follow these simple instructions.

• Take one Imigran nasal spray applicator out of the packaging.
• Blow your nose to make sure it’s clean.
• Hold the applicator in a position that’s most comfortable for you without pushing down on the plunger.
• Close one of your nostrils by pressing the side of your nose.
• Insert the nozzle of Imigran into your other nostril by about a centimeter.
• Inhale while you press down on the blue plunger to deliver your dose of Imigran.
• Remove the applicator and throw it away.

If you feel symptoms starting to come back after two hours, you can use another dose of Imigran. Never use more than two nasal sprays in 24 hours. If the first dose didn’t help your migraine, don’t take a second dose. Send our clinician a message via your account, and they may be able to provide a more appropriate treatment for you.

Imigran Radis tablets instructions

Taking Imigran Radis tablets to treat your migraines is quick and easy. If you feel a migraine coming or sense an aura, simply swallow one pill whole with water. If your migraine symptoms start to come back after two hours, you can take another dose. Don’t take more than 300mg in any 24 hour period.

How long does it take Imigran to work?

Imigran nasal spray is very fast acting. After you apply it, you should feel your migraine symptoms ease up in about 15 minutes. Imigran Radis tablets take a little longer to kick in. You should start to feel better between 30 and 60 minutes after you take it.

What should I do if I make a mistake using Imigran?

Taking more Imigran than you’re supposed to can make you sick. If you’ve taken more than you should, you should speak to a clinician. They will let you know if you need medical attention.
