What is Dymista?

Dymista is a nasal spray used to treat the symptoms of hay fever and allergic rhinitis. You’ll usually use it twice a day, once in the morning and once at night, to help give you relief from the condition.

Hay fever is a common condition that’s caused by increased levels of pollen in the air. It tends to be a lot more active during the warmer months of spring and summer.

Its main symptoms are a runny nose, sneezing, irritated eyes and an itchy throat. It can make you feel as if you have a permanent cold. You may have to keep all your doors and windows shut at home, and wash your clothes more frequently to get rid of pollen.

How does Dymista work?

Allergies such as hay fever happen when your body releases histamine, in response to something it considers a threat (in this case it’s pollen). The histamine blocks your nasal passages and causes all the unpleasant symptoms associated with hay fever.

When this happens, you need a treatment that can help ease symptoms and tackle the cause of the allergy trigger. Dymista has two main active ingredients, Fluticasone Propionate and Azelastine Hydrochloride. Working in combination, these two ingredients stop the immune response to pollen.

What doses of Dymista are there?

Dymista is a one dose, twice a day treatment. ^[1] You’ll use it as recommended by our clinician, which is usually one spray in each nostril. The length of time you’ll need to be treated varies from person to person, but our clinical team can talk to you about how long your treatment course should be.

How to use Dymista

• Shake the bottle and then take off the cap.
• You’ll need to prime the pump before you use it for the first time. Squirt six shots into the air until you see a light mist. You should do this twice if you haven’t used your Dymista for seven days.
• Blow your nose to clear it.
• With your head tilted forward slightly, carefully place the applicator inside one nostril whilst holding your finger over the other nostril to close it.
• Release the shot of Dymista by pressing down on the spray button and inhale through your nostril.
• Breathe out through your mouth.
• Repeat the above for the other nostril.
• Make sure the tip of the spray is clean, wipe it and then replace the cap.

How long does it take Dymista to work?

Once you’ve used Dymista, you should typically start to feel relief anywhere from five minutes.

It might take a few days to feel the full benefits associated with regular use of Dymista. ^[1] If you feel it isn’t tackling your symptoms effectively, we can discuss alternative treatments with you that might suit you better.

What should I do if I make a mistake when using Dymista?

If you make a mistake and accidentally use too much Dymista, then it’s unlikely to cause any harm at all. If you accidentally swallow it, you will need to seek medical help immediately as oral ingestion can be dangerous.
