What is Neoclarityn?

Neoclarityn is a tablet that you use to help you with the symptoms of allergic rhinitis (allergy symptoms that affect your nasal passages, such as sneezing or runny nose). It can also help with urticaria, which is the term given to skin symptoms caused by an allergy, such as itching and hives.

It’s a second generation antihistamine, which means that it helps to relieve your allergy symptoms, whilst making you less likely to become drowsy than first generation antihistamines. This is why second generation antihistamines are often referred to as ‘non drowsy antihistamines’.

How does Neoclarityn work?

In the case of many allergies, your body produces a chemical called histamine as a result of encountering something that it (incorrectly) considers a threat. Histamine then binds to your body’s histamine receptors, which then trigger responses to try to stop the ‘threat’ from entering your system (such as swelling your nasal passages, which leads to blocked, runny nose, for example).

Antihistamines like Neoclarytin work by stopping histamine from binding to these receptors and causing the symptoms, meaning that your response to triggers like pollen is weakened.

What doses of Neoclarityn are there?

There is only one dose of Neoclarityn, which is 5mg, and studies have suggested that taking more of it doesn’t make it any more effective.

As a result, you should let our clinician know if it’s not helping with your symptoms as you’d hoped it would - you might need to try another treatment.

How to take Neoclarityn

You should always take Neoclarityn exactly as our clinician has instructed you to.

To use Neoclarityn:

• take one tablet per day
• take it with or without food
• swallow it whole, with water

How long does it take Neoclarityn to work?

It shouldn’t take too long for you to start to feel the effects of Neoclarityn, but it reaches its peak level in your system after three hours, and has a half life of around 27 hours (the length of time that it takes for the amount of medicine in your system to reduce by half).

What should I do if I make a mistake when taking Neoclarityn?

If you accidentally take too much Neoclarityn it’s unlikely to cause you too many issues. But if you’ve taken too much and feel unwell, you should contact a clinician for advice.

If you forget to take your dose of Neoclarityn, you can take it when you remember as long as it’s still the same day. Just make sure that you don’t double up on doses to make up for missed doses.
