What is Salamol Easi-Breathe?

Salamol Easi-Breathe inhaler is a CFC free inhaler made in the UK. It contains an active ingredient called salbutamol sulfate.

Salamol Easi-Breathe is a blue inhaler. It can be used to offer relief during an asthma attack and also as a preventer when used before exposure to a known trigger such as pet hair or exercise.

It can also be used to offer relief from the symptoms of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).

How does Salamol work?

Salamol Easi-Breathe inhaler contains an active ingredient called salbutamol sulfate, which belongs to a group of medicines called beta-antagonists. It works by widening the airways in the lungs to allow air to get in and out when you breathe.

What is Salamol Easi-Breathe CFC inhaler used for?

It’s used for relieving an asthma attack, preventing an attack due to exposure to allergens such as pet hair, pollen and cigarette smoke and to provide relief from symptoms associated with COPD.

Is Salamol 100mcg the only dose?

Salamol CFC free Easi-Breathe inhaler is only available in one dosage size of 100 micrograms because the dosage needed during an attack differs from person to person. The dose taken is increased by delivering multiple doses at different intervals during an asthma attack.

You can get a similar reliever – Salamol Steri-Neb in 2.5mg and 5mg dosage sizes, but we do not currently offer this medication through our service.

How to use Salamol

Salamol Easi-Breathe inhaler comes with a patient leaflet that contains instructions about how to take and use the Salamol Easi-Breathe inhaler. It’s important to read the leaflet before using your inhaler or administering it to a child.

If you have any problems using your inhaler, you should contact our clinician for advice.

It’s important to know how to use your inhaler effectively because you’ll need to use it quickly during an attack.

How to use Salamol Easi-Breathe inhaler to prevent asthma caused by exercise or allergens:

  • Take two puffs 10-15 minutes before you exercise or before exposure to allergens
  • Don’t take more than eight puffs in 24 hours

How to use Salamol Easi-Breathe inhaler for relief from asthma symptoms during an attack:

  • Take one puff as a starting dose
  • Increase to two puffs if symptoms don’t ease

How to use Salamol Easi-Breathe inhaler

  • Shake the inhaler firmly
  • Hold the inhaler upright
  • Fold down the cap that covers the mouthpiece
  • Breathe normally
  • Hold the inhaler firmly between your lips and breathe in deeply
  • Take the inhaler out of your mouth and hold your breath for 10 seconds.
  • Breathe out slowly
  • Wait one minute before taking another puff

What should I do if Salamol doesn’t work?

If your inhaler stops providing relief you should contact our clinician for advice, because they may need to review the dose. If it doesn’t relieve asthma symptoms during an attack, seek medical attention immediately.

How often can you take Salamol?

Take no more than eight puffs in 24 hours, and wait four hours between doses.

Salamol Easi-Breathe is a reliever inhaler that is used to treat asthma attacks, so if you’re using it more than twice a week you should seek advice from a clinician or asthma nurse. You might need to use a preventer inhaler as a longer term treatment for asthma.

FAQ: Salamol

Have something specific you want to know? Search our info below, or ask our experts a question if you can’t find what you’re looking for.

Will I need to use another inhaler at the same time as Salamol?

Answer:
You might need to, yes. Some people with asthma use a reliever inhaler like Salamol Easi-Breathe together with another type of inhaler known as a preventer inhaler.

A preventer inhaler is taken at regular intervals everyday. It’s designed to prevent the symptoms associated with asthma. It does this by preventing inflammation in the lungs.

A reliever inhaler works differently because it’s only used ‘on demand’ when an attack is happening or in anticipation of one.

Most people with asthma take a preventer inhaler in the morning and evening and carry a reliever inhaler with them.

Combination inhalers exist which do the job of both a preventer inhaler and a reliever inhaler.

Is Salamol a steroid inhaler?

Answer:
Salamol Easi-Breathe doesn’t contain steroids. It’s a reliever inhaler and steroids are found in preventer inhalers because they do the same job as the glands in your body that produce steroids naturally.

Preventer and reliever inhalers are often used together to offer long and short term treatment for asthma.

Is Salamol the same as Ventolin?

Answer:
The Salamol Easi-Breathe inhaler and Ventolin inhaler both contain an active ingredient that helps to relax the airways during an asthma attack. But there are some key differences between Ventolin and Salamol Easi-Breathe.

Ventolin and Salamol Easi-breathe are made by different companies. Salamol Easi-Breathe is also cheaper than Ventolin. The inhalers look different too, because Ventolin is an aerosol inhaler whereas Salamol Easi-Breathe is breath activated.

How is Salamol Easi-Breathe different from other inhalers?

Answer:
The Salamol Easi-Breathe inhaler is similar to a Ventolin inhaler because they both contain the same active ingredient: salbutamol.

Ventolin inhaler differs slightly because it’s a CFC inhaler. Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) are used in traditional inhalers to help deliver the medicine from the inhaler’s canister and into the mouthpiece.

Research shows that CFCs are bad for the environment and cause damage to the Earth’s ozone layer. Many countries and pharmaceutical companies have made a commitment to using fewer CFCs.

Salamol Easi-Breathe inhaler uses an alternative to CFCs called hydrofluoroalkanes (HFAs). HFAs are more environmentally friendly than CFCs but perform the same job

Can you get Salamol over the counter?

Answer:
No. It’s a prescription only treatment. So a clinician will need to discuss your asthma symptoms and medical history so that they can provide you with the correct dosage. It’s also important for a clinician to be involved in your ongoing care and monitor your asthma symptoms and how they change over time.

Like all medicines, Salamol Easi-Breathe can cause side effects and these need to be considered by a clinician before a prescription is given.

Why should I buy Salamol Easi-Breathe online with Treated?

Answer:
We’ll not only help you to choose your asthma treatment, we’ll provide you with ongoing care too. Tell us about your health, and we’ll advise you on safe and suitable medications just for you. You can select which treatment you’d like from there, and how frequently you’d like to receive it from our pharmacy.
