How we source info.
When we present you with stats, data, opinion or a consensus, we’ll tell you where this came from. And we’ll only present data as clinically reliable if it’s come from a reputable source, such as a state or government-funded health body, a peer-reviewed medical journal, or a recognised analytics or data body. Read more in our editorial policy.
Taking Onglyza is convenient and easy:
You shouldn’t take Onglyza if you are under the age of 18 or if you are pregnant. If you’re on other medications or have other chronic illnesses that suppress your immune system, or decrease your liver or kidney function, make sure to ask our clinician if Onglyza is safe for you.
As with other medications, there’s a risk of several side effects. These include rash, abdominal pain, joint pain, and others. Tell our clinician about any side effects you’re experiencing. They may advise you to try an alternative treatment.
Onglyza only takes a few hours to work. After your first dose, you will need to take it around the same time each day to maintain appropriate glucose levels. If you suspect that your blood sugar isn’t as well controlled as it should be while taking Onglyza, discuss it with our clinician. There may be another type 2 diabetes medication that is better for you.
It’s very difficult to overdose on Onglyza. If you think you’ve taken too much Onglyza and you’re feeling sick, you should seek medical assistance immediately.
If you miss a dose of Onglyza, take it as soon as you remember. If it’s almost time for your next pill, take it as normal and skip the missed pill entirely. Never take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
