What is Hylo-Forte?
Hylo-Forte eye drops can treat dry eyes. It contains sodium hyaluronate which helps retain water and keep your eyes moisturised. Dry eye is a common condition that affects a lot of people, particularly the elderly. It can cause disturbances when reading, watching or doing everyday tasks. You don't always need treatment, but without it, it can worsen and lead to more irritation.
How does Hylo-Forte work?
Sodium hyaluronate is the active ingredient in Hylo-Forte. It’s the salt of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in the body, but is a more stable and longer-lasting form of it. It possesses hygroscopic properties, which means it absorbs moisture from the air to moisturise and lubricate the eyes. Additionally, as a natural lubricant, it retains water, helping to keep your eyes moisturised for an extended period. As a result, it can protect the eyes from oxidative stress, which could otherwise cause damage.
What doses of Hylo-Forte are there?
Hylo-Forte comes in a 10 mL bottle containing 2 mg/mL of sodium hyaluronate. Typically 1 drop is added to each eye, three times a day. If your eyes feel dry throughout the day, you can use more drops. But because it’s quite a viscous solution, one drop should keep your eyes moisturised for a long time.

How to use Hylo-Forte
When using the Hylo-Forte bottle, open the cap and pump the bottle once to release one drop. To apply Hylo-Forte to the eyes:
- tilt your head slightly backwards;
- with one hand, hold your lower eyelid to keep your eye open;
- invert the bottle of Hylo-Forte and pump one eye drop;
- slowly close your eyes and let the drop spread evenly. Your eyes may be a bit blurry after applying the drops;
- repeat the above steps for the next eye;
- repeat throughout the day as needed.
When using Hylo-Forte, make sure not to use any other eye medication for a minimum of 30 minutes before or after.
You’ll typically use it around three times a day, but if you're using it very frequently (around 10 times a day or more), contact your optician as there might be an underlying cause of your dry eyes.
How long does it take for Hylo-Forte to work?
You should feel immediate relief after applying the drop to your eyes. However, eye drops only provide short-term relief. For lasting effects, they need to be taken multiple times a day and for a couple of months.
