Evorel Sequi is a mixture of two hormones that’s prescribed for women going through the menopause, but who also still experience menstrual bleeding each month. Known as a hormone replacement therapy (HRT), it treats menopausal symptoms.
Evorel Sequi patches are placed on the skin for a set number of days, before being replaced with a new one. Just like a stop smoking patch, only it weans you back on, not off.
Evorel Sequi vs Evorel Conti patches: what’s the difference?
Both Evorel Sequi and Evorel Conti contain the same two hormones, and Everol Conti makes up half the treatment in Sequi. But this is where the similarities end.
Sequi is a sequential HRT patch while Conti is a continuous treatment. Sequential HRT patches contain different levels of the hormones that are taken in a specific order, while continuous patches are all of the same dose.
Sequential HRT patches are prescribed to women who are still going through the menopause and experience some bleeding. Once bleeding stops, you can move onto a continuous HRT patch, like Conti.
Evorel Sequi ingredients
Evorel Sequi patches contain two active ingredients, estradiol hemihydrate and norethisterone acetate. Estradiol is a synthetic version of the hormone oestrogen, while norethisterone is a synthetic version of the hormone progesterone.
They’re also used together in the contraceptive pill as combined pills, which refers to the combination of the two ingredients.
Each pack of Evorel Sequi comes with two forms of the treatment. Evorel 50 patches contain a different dosage of hormones compared to the second half of the treatment, Evorel Conti.

Where to put Evorel Sequi patches
Evorel Sequi patches are easy to use and effective. They should be placed on a hairless part of your body, below the waistline. Usually, this means on the top of your leg or buttocks. It’s important to not use the same area of skin for consecutive patches. It should never be placed on your breasts or over broken skin.
It’s also important to not place it over an area that you’ve applied cream or talc to and never under an area where you might wear elastic, such as your waist.
When should I start to use the Evorel Sequi patch?
At the beginning of treatment with Evorel Sequi you’ll use the Evorel 50 patch. You can start to use this at any time if you have not used any HRT treatment previously, or if you have no menstrual bleeding.
If you still have your period, you should use it within five days of the start of bleeding. If you’re using a different HRT, its type will determine when in your cycle you should start using Evorel Sequi patches.
When to use each type of patch will depend on where in your menstrual cycle you are. For weeks one and two you should use the Evorel 50 patch. For weeks three and four you should swap to the Everol Conti patch. There should be no break between the two types of patches.
When should I change the Evorel Sequi patch?
Each patch needs to be changed twice a week, so you’ll use a total of four Everol 50 patches and four Everol Conti patches each month. There is a strict schedule for when you should change each patch. For example, if you use the first patch on a Monday, it’ll need to be changed on Thursday, and then on the following Monday.

Have something specific you want to know? Search our info below, or ask our experts a question if you can’t find what you’re looking for.
What size are the Evorel Sequi patches?
Answer:
HRT patches are designed to be discreet. Measuring just 4cm accross, they are easily hidden under clothing, usually on the bottom half of the body (but more on that later).
They essentially look like small plasters and are just as thin, meaning they are unlikely to show through your clothing. As long as they’re placed on a hairless part of the bottom half of the body, and not where you might wear elastic, you can put them anywhere you feel is most discreet.
What problems can the menopause cause?
Answer:
The menopause describes hormonal changes in the body that lead to the end of your period and your ability to become pregnant naturally. This usually happens between your mid 40s and mid 50s, but can occur earlier in some women.
The menopause can have a major impact on your life, both physically and psychologically, so having the option of a treatment like HRT can be life changing.
Symptoms of the menopause include: hot flushes, mood changes, an inability to concentrate, vaginal dryness, insomnia, night sweats and a significant drop in sexual desire. These symptoms can build slowly, in some cases lasting several years before your period stops completely.
Evorel Sequi patches can also be used to prevent osteoporosis, a bone condition that often occurs in menopause and leads to brittle or deformed bones.
How do I change the Evorel Sequi patch?
Answer:
Removing the patch is easy. Just peel it off and fold it over so the sticky side attaches to itself. This prevents any remaining hormones from being picked up by children or pets.
Always throw the patch away, and don’t flush it down the toilet. After the patch has been removed it might leave some glue on your skin. This will fall off over time, or you can remove it with soap and water or baby oil.
Can I buy Evorel Sequi patches over the counter?
Answer:
You’ll need a prescription to get Evorel HRT patches. HRT treatments can have side effects, and certain products may not be suitable for you if you have an existing health condition, or if you’re currently taking other medications, for example.
So you’ll need to have a consultation with a clinician first to assess if Evorel Sequi is safe for you to use, during which it’s important to tell them about your medical history and any treatments you’re currently using.
