What is Mirvaso Gel?

Mirvaso Gel is used to treat the symptoms of rosacea, which is estimated to affect more than 40 million people worldwide.^[1]

It contains the active ingredient brimonidine tartrate, which belongs to a group of substances called alpha2-adrenergic receptor agonists. These substances are used to treat high blood pressure, and help to tackle the symptoms of rosacea by reducing blood flow to the affected area.^[1]

How does Mirvaso Gel work?

Mirvaso Gel works by acting on the blood vessels in your skin. When you apply it directly to the affected area, it’s quickly absorbed, and affects the blood vessels below the surface by constricting them and reducing the amount of blood flow. Studies have shown that this reduces redness and can soothe symptoms in as little as half an hour.^[2]

What doses of Mirvaso Gel are there?

Mirvaso is only available as a 0.33% strength gel. If this dose doesn’t work the way it should for you, you should speak to our clinician about alternative treatments, which may be more suitable. You just need to sign in to your account and send our clinician a message.

How to use Mirvaso Gel

If you’re unsure about anything when taking this medication, ask our clinician or pharmacist prescriber for advice. You’ll normally start with a smaller amount of gel than the prescribed daily amount for at least one week to see how your skin responds.

To use Mirvaso Gel:

• apply a small, pea-sized amount of gel to cove your face, forehead, nose, chin and each cheek once daily; you can increase the amount of Mirvaso Gel you use gradually, according to your doctor’s instructions
• apply it evenly and smoothly in a thin layer on the face only
• avoid your eyes, lips, mouth and inner nose
• apply a maximum of 1g of gel per day (or 5 pea-sized amounts)

How long does it take Mirvaso Gel to work?

Mirvaso Gel is a fast-acting treatment for symptoms of rosacea. Studies have shown that most people notice a reduction in symptoms within 30 minutes of using the gel, and it can provide relief for up to 12 hours. ^[1] Treatment is usually prescribed for a longer period as flare-ups can occur even once you start using it. So make sure you keep using it for as long as your clinician has recommended.

 What should I do if I make a mistake when using Mirvaso Gel?

Only apply Mirvaso Gel on your face as directed by your clinician or pharmacist. If you get any gel in your eyes, nose or mouth, rinse with plenty of water and contact our clinician if you experience any side effects.
