One-a-day tablet to relieve itching.
Montelukast can block leukotriene, a molecule responsible for inflammation and itching. This helps treat symptoms of severe eczema.
To order Montelukast, answer a few questions about your health and we’ll recommend a list of treatments suitable for you. We’ll then deliver your chosen treatment to you the next working day.
Montelukast is an asthma medication that can also be used off-label to treat the symptoms of severe eczema. It lowers inflammation by blocking inflammatory cells, which help ease symptoms like bumps and itching.
Although steroids are the common treatment for severe eczema, Montelukast can help you manage the symptoms. It’s typically recommended to use alongside steroids, as it can help alleviate discomfort, such as itching and redness.
One of the causes of eczema symptoms is histamine - a chemical that’s involved in your body’s allergic response. But leukotriene, another molecule, can also play a part. Like histamine, leukotriene is a pro-inflammatory molecule that’s released in response to an allergen. Once released, it causes swelling and itching.
Montelukast is a leukotriene inhibitor. This means that, by binding to leukotriene receptors, it can help stop this inflammatory process, helping to relieve swelling and itching.
However, it’s important to note that there are multiple factors that can cause eczema symptoms, so taking leukotriene won’t work for everyone.
Montelukast is available as 10mg tablets, 4mg and 5mg chewable tablets or 4mg granules. The oral tablets are typically for adults and children over the age of 15, whereas the chewable tablets tend to be prescribed for under 15s.

When we present you with stats, data, opinion or a consensus, we’ll tell you where this came from. Swallow one tablet of Montelukast in the evening with a glass of water. It can be taken with or without food, but taking it with food might reduce the chance of side effects.
The recommended dose is 10mg a day, but it really depends on how severe your condition is.
When taken orally, Montelukast is absorbed almost immediately and can lower the effect of leukotriene straight away. However, it may take a week or two to relieve the symptoms of severe eczema. If you don’t see any improvement in your symptoms after 4-8 weeks, contact your clinician online.
If you accidentally take too much, contact your doctor for medical advice. There have been no reported side effects in cases of overdose, but it is still important to seek medical advice.
If you accidentally miss a dose, take the next dose at the normal scheduled time. Don't take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
