What is Aknemycin Plus Solution?

Aknemycin Plus Solution is a topical medication for acne that you can use on your face. It contains two strong ingredients which work in different ways to treat your acne, as well as an easy-to-use applicator which you use once or twice a day.

Aknemycin Plus Solution can treat inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne. It reduces breakouts and spots while keeping your skin looking healthy and clear. It provides strong, effective treatment for your acne and prevents further breakouts.

How does Aknemycin Plus Solution work?

Aknemycin Plus Solution contains two active ingredients, 4% erythromycin and 0.025% tretinoin.^[1] Erythromycin is an antibiotic that stops the bacteria from growing and reproducing. It’s a type of antibiotic called a macrolide, which is also anti-inflammatory, so it keeps your skin from becoming too red and irritated.^[2]

Tretinoin is a retinoid, a type of vitamin A which helps to get rid of the acne lesions on your face. It works by speeding up cell renewal and preventing dead skin cells from sticking together and clogging your pores, which stops blackheads and whiteheads from forming.^[3] So both ingredients work together to treat acne and stop more acne from developing.

How often should I use Aknemycin Plus Solution?

You should use Aknemycin Plus Solution once or twice a day – most clinicians recommend starting once daily in the evening to see how your skin reacts before moving to twice-daily use. Your clinician can tell you exactly how often to use Aknemycin based on your symptoms, how you respond to the treatment and your health history and needs. How to use Aknemycin Plus Solution

Always use Aknemycin Plus Solution as your clinician tells you to:

• Make sure your face is clean and dry before applying Aknemycin. Use a mild cleanser or water and pat your skin dry.
• Press the top of the cap in until you feel a click.
• Turn the applicator upside down, so the solution soaks the foam pad.
• Remove the cap and use the applicator on your acne, covering it with a thin layer of solution.
• Because this is an alcohol-based solution, you might feel a brief stinging sensation or notice some skin peeling when you first start using it.
• Put the cap back on your medication.
• Don’t apply anything else to your face until the medication is absorbed.
• Avoid flames after applying Aknemycin Plus Solution. Stay away from direct sunlight, and use UV protection if you can’t.^[1]

Don’t use Aknemycin Plus if you’re pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are planning a pregnancy. It’s important that you use effective contraception while using this treatment if there’s any chance you could become pregnant.

How long does it take Aknemycin Plus Solution to work?

Aknemycin Plus Solution starts working on your face quickly, but its full effects in treating your acne may take longer to show. If you haven’t seen an improvement after nine to twelve weeks, speak to our clinician. You may need a different or stronger acne treatment.

What should I do if I make a mistake when using Aknemycin Plus Solution?

Don’t apply Aknemycin Plus Solution near your nose, mouth, eyes or nostrils. If this happens by accident, rinse out thoroughly with clean water. Don’t use Aknemycin Plus Solution on sunburnt, cracked or irritated skin, as it may burn the affected area.

If you use too much Aknemycin, your skin may become red and irritated. Stop using Aknemycin Plus Solution until the inflammation goes down, and contact your clinician if it’s severe. If you forget to use Aknemycin Plus Solution, use it as soon as you remember. Don’t apply more than usual to make up for it, just continue as normal. ^[1]
