What is Nasacort?

Nasacort contains the active ingredient triamcinolone acetonide.

It’s used for the treatment of common allergies such as pet fur, dust and pollen (hay fever). Nasacort is a spray that you use in your nose to treat allergy symptoms such as coughing, sneezing and itching.

How does Nasacort work?

The active ingredient in Nasacort is a corticosteroid which reduces inflammation commonly caused by an allergic reaction. Nasacort settles the body’s reaction to allergens and reduces the cold-like symptoms such as a stuffy nose and sore throat. Which we think you’ll agree will make life a lot more pleasant.

What doses of Nasacort are there?

There is only one dose of Nasacort available, which means you haven’t got to worry whether you’ve used the right amount for it to work effectively.

If you find that Nasacort isn’t working for you, or that you’re experiencing side effects, we can recommend alternative treatments that are safe for you to take.

How to use Nasacort

  • Firstly, gently blow your nose to clear your nostrils.
  • Shake the bottle gently.
  • With your free hand, close one nostril with your finger and with the other hand place the nozzle into the other nostril as far as you comfortably can.
  • Close your mouth and breathe in gently through your nose. Whilst doing this press the nozzle to deliver one spray.
  • Breathe out through your mouth.
  • Deliver a second spray in the same nostril using the same procedure and then repeat the process again for the other nostril.
  • After use, wipe the nozzle with a tissue and replace the cap.

How long does it take Nasacort to work?

It can take different lengths of time to feel the full benefits of Nasacort depending on you and your body and the type of allergy you’ve got. The effects should be noticeable within two days but it may be a few weeks before you get the full benefits. Once the symptoms come under control, our clinician may decide that your dosage can be lowered.

What should I do if I make a mistake when using Nasacort?

When it comes to how much Nasacort you should use each day, it’s important that you stick to the dosage set by our clinician. Your allergy symptoms may become worse if you use more or less than you have been prescribed.

Don’t worry if you take more Nasacort than you should as it isn’t likely to cause any problems. If you drink the whole bottle you might experience some stomach or gut discomfort. Talk to a clinician if you’ve taken more Nasacort than you should have done.

If you forget to take your dose at the normal time, take it as soon as you remember. However, do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
