Combo inhaler that prevents asthma flare-ups.

Sereflo is a combination inhaler that keeps the airways open to help you breathe better and reduce inflammation in the lungs. It’s a preventer inhaler, which means it’ll keep your asthma symptoms at bay to reduce risk of an asthma attack and improve your condition overall.
Talk to us about your health and we’ll help you find the right treatments, so you can choose the best one. Order Sereflo online and get it delivered straight to you, whenever you want.
Sereflo is a preventer inhaler that uses a combination of two ingredients to help prevent asthma symptoms (like breathlessness and wheezing) by keeping your airways and lungs open. It contains a corticosteroid and a long-acting bronchodilator which work together to reduce your risk of having an asthma attack.
Salmeterol is a bronchodilator, which makes sure your airways are open so air can get in and out easier - this effect can last for up to 12 hours. Fluticasone is the corticosteroid used in Sereflo and it reduces the swelling and inflammation in the lungs. You should use Sereflo every day, even if you don’t have any symptoms. It’s available in two doses and also as a powdered inhaler (Sereflo Ciphaler) which comes in the higher dose of 50/250.
Sereflo works to prevent breathlessness and wheezing, which are symptoms of an asthma attack. Salmeterol and fluticasone are the active ingredients in Sereflo. They work together and perform different jobs as an ongoing treatment for long-term asthma.
Salmeterol is a long-acting bronchodilator. This means it works longer, up to 12 hours, compared to short-acting bronchodilators or reliever inhalers like Salbutamol. Salmeterol targets the lungs directly by keeping the airways open making it easier to breathe.
Fluticasone is a type of corticosteroid called a glucocorticoid, which imitates steroid hormones released by the adrenal glands. It’s an anti-inflammatory medicine that prevents lung cells from releasing chemicals that cause inflammation, swelling and irritation in the lungs. This reduces symptoms of asthma like wheezing and breathing difficulties.
Sereflo is for people who suffer from moderate to severe asthma and need a bronchodilator and corticosteroid combined medication to help them manage their condition. If you have moderate asthma but your current inhaler isn’t helping your asthma because of the lower dosage of corticosteroid then Sereflo might be the better option.
Sereflo is only available in two doses: 25 micrograms of salmeterol and 125 or 250 micrograms of fluticasone. You’ll usually be prescribed the lowest dose that will manage your asthma first. There are other inhalers that contain the same active ingredients in a lower dosage as well, but your prescriber will assess your asthma before increasing or changing your dose or inhaler.
How we source info.
When we present you with stats, data, opinion or a consensus, we’ll tell you where this came from. And we’ll only present data as clinically reliable if it’s come from a reputable source, such as a state or government-funded health body, a peer-reviewed medical journal, or a recognised analytics or data body. Use your inhaler every day as instructed by our clinicians. There’s a dose indicator on the inhaler to show the number of doses left. When the indicator shows 40 it’ll turn red, meaning you should order a new one.
Test the inhaler first before using it or if it’s been a while since you last used it. Shake it well and point the mouthpiece away from you. Press the inhaler to release four puffs in the air – the indicator should now show ‘120’. If it’s been a week or more just release two puffs.
To use Sereflo:
You should take two puffs of Sereflo twice a day - so morning and night (or as your clinician has instructed).
Several studies looked atthe safety and effectiveness of the active ingredients used in Sereflo. GOAL (Gaining Optimal Asthma Control) was a 12-month study that looked at patients with chronic asthma, comparing combined salmeterol and fluticasone with just fluticasone as a treatment. It showed that patients who used a combination treatment improved control over their asthma within 16 days versus 37 days on just inhaled corticosteroids.
Another study looking at the safety of corticosteroids showed that a fluticasone and salmeterol treatment resulted in a 21% lower risk of having an asthma attack than a fluticasone-only treatment.
Using a combined therapy like Sereflo is a well-tolerated, cost-effective and effective option to help maintain your asthma symptoms.
If you’re finding it hard to use the inhaler, our clinicians will recommend a spacer that’s right for you. The Volumatic or AeroChamber Plus are compatible with Sereflo.
It’s important to note that a spacer device is only recommended for the higher dose of Sereflo (25/250). If you’re on the lower dose and you think you need a spacer, tell your prescriber because you might have to change to a different inhaler (with the same ingredients and dose) that can be used with a spacer device.
