One tablet a day to prevent asthma symptoms

Singulair is a preventative medication for asthma symptoms that protects your lungs from swelling and keeps your airways clear. This reduces the frequency and severity of your symptoms.
Order Singulair online for treatment recommendations from our experts, catered to your individual health needs.
Singulair is a branded medication made by Merck Sharp and Dohme using the active ingredient montelukast sodium. It’s an asthma maintenance treatment that is meant to be taken alongside other asthma medications.
This treatment can be used to help manage asthma and exercise-induced asthma, and it must be taken once a day in the evening, rather than when you experience the onset of an asthma attack.
Singulair belongs to a group of medicines called leukotriene receptor antagonists. These treatments’ main function is to keep the receptors in your lungs from reacting to leukotrienes.
Leukotrienes are molecules produced in your body when you’re stimulated by allergens, and cause swelling of your airways, which makes it harder for you to breathe. This triggers allergies and asthma attacks . So by protecting your lungs from these, you will experience an improvement in your asthma symptoms.
Singulair film-coated tablets only come as a 10mg dose. This means that we cannot adjust the dosage if the treatment doesn’t work as well as you’d like. But we can recommend alternative medications for you, and we’ll monitor you to see how you get on with these treatments.
How we source info.
When we present you with stats, data, opinion or a consensus, we’ll tell you where this came from. And we’ll only present data as clinically reliable if it’s come from a reputable source, such as a state or government-funded health body, a peer-reviewed medical journal, or a recognised analytics or data body. Read more in our editorial policy.
Singulair starts working immediately after you take it, blocking the leukotriene in your body from affecting your lungs. It takes about a week for you to get the full benefits of the treatment.
If you forget to take your Singulair tablet, don’t take two doses in one day to make up for it. Instead, just skip the missed dose and resume your treatment as usual. It’s ok if you miss a dose sometimes, but if it happens often, you should set an alarm at the same time everyday to remind you to take your pill.
If instead of forgetting and missing a dose, you forget you already took it and double up, do not worry, it shouldn’t cause you any harm. It’s difficult to accidentally overdose on Singulair, but if by any chance you feel unwell after you take too many tablets, you should seek emergency medical attention immediately.
