What sets apart Vardenafil from other ED drugs? Potency. A little Vardenafil goes a long way, so the dosages of the drug are lower, but it’s still an effective option. And because you don’t need as much, you’re less likely to get side effects with it. This makes it a good option for older men or men with medical conditions like high blood pressure.
Just take one Vardenafil tablet 25–60 minutes before sex. It remains active in your body for up to five hours giving you ample time to enjoy sex with your partner.
Like Levitra, Vardenafil also comes as an oro-dispersible tablet (ODT) which dissolves in the mouth and doesn’t need to be swallowed with water.
How does Vardenafil work?
Vardenafil works by opening up blood vessels so more blood can get into the penis. It’s a PDE5 inhibitor, which means that it restricts the action of an enzyme in the body (PDE5). This enzyme can cause blood vessels to become tight, and when someone has ED, this can stop blood flow to the penis (making erections difficult). Vardenafil helps to dilate these blood vessels, improving circulation to the penis. The result? Easier, longer-lasting and firmer erections.
Levitra, Vardenafil: what’s the difference?
Nothing much, apart from the name.
Vardenafil is the non-branded (cheaper) version of Levitra. It’s the same pill on the inside, with the same active ingredient, but different on the outside. As it’s chemically the same, it does the same job in the body.
The main difference is that it isn’t made exclusively by one company like Levitra is. The sole manufacturer of Levitra owns the rights to the brand name, as well as the distinctive product design (the circular, orange pills).
Generics like Vardenafil are made by different manufacturers, so they’re usually cheaper than the brand-name medications and also differ in color and shape from one another.
How do I take Vardenafil?
To get the most out of Vardenafil:
take one Vardenafil tablet 25–60 minutes before you plan to have sex
swallow your tablet whole with water
take one whole pill at a time (don’t break it up or chew it)
never take more than one tablet in any 24 hour period
The oro-dispersible version of Vardenafil doesn't need to be taken with water.
If you feel your dose is too strong or too weak, let your prescriber know.
Which Vardenafil dosage works best?
Every man is different. It depends on whether you've used treatment before, and whether it worked well. Our clinician will usually prescribe the lowest effective dosage. If that works well for you, you’ll continue with it.
If you think this doesn’t do the trick - for example, you get an erection that doesn’t last very long or isn’t quite hard enough - let us know. A higher dosage is sometimes the answer.
If you get mild side effects, but find that it works well otherwise, our prescriber might change the dosage depending on how you respond to it.
I took Vardenafil but it doesn’t work. What should I do?
If you take Vardenafil and you find that it doesn’t have any effect, takes too long to work or doesn’t last for very long, let us know. Switching to a higher dose or adjusting your dose could fix the problem. So if you take Vardenafil and it doesn’t work as well as it should, let your prescriber know.
To get the best results out of Vardenafil, you might also have to:
limit your alcohol intake quit smoking if you smoke eat a light meal when taking it get some form of physical exercise daily maintain a healthy lifestyle.
But remember, Vardenafil is a pill for erections and doesn’t help in increasing your sex drive. It works only if you’re sexually aroused.

How long does Vardenafil take to work?
Vardenafil takes between 25 and 60 minutes to work normally. So you’re better off taking it an hour before sex, to make sure it’s had enough time to work. Once you’ve taken it, it stays active for up to four or five hours. So you can take your time with sex, and don’t need to race through the motions.
But remember, it shouldn’t mean a constant erection for four to five hours - if you get one that lasts more than four hours you should go to the hospital. With Vardenafil, you’ll find it easier to get an erection when sexually aroused during these five hours.
There are some things that can affect how long it takes to work, like eating a heavy meal. Eating lighter will help the drug to work in the normal time window.
What is Vardenafil ODT?
It’s an orodispersible tablet version of the 10mg dose. This type of tablet doesn’t need to be taken with water, and dissolves in the mouth.
It’s a preferable option for men who want to take a tablet, without drawing as much attention to the act of pausing things and taking it with a glass of water.
How safe is Vardenafil?
Vardenafil is very safe as long as you take it correctly. It’s a low risk treatment, and is less likely to cause side effects than other ED drugs.
Most men who take Vardenafil use it without any issue, but some men may get some side effects. If the side effects continue for a long time or cause you to feel unwell, let your prescriber know.
If you have any pre-existing medical conditions, let your prescriber know when you’re consulting about ED treatment. This will help them pick out the best treatment options for you and be mindful of any interactions with other medications.
For example, if you’re taking nitrates, taking ED medication at the same time can cause serious side effects. So it’s important the person you’re consulting knows about this, so they can recommend treatment safely.
Vardenafil vs Sildenafil: Which one’s better?
Really it comes down to you. Both work in the same way, and both are on-demand treatments with comparable action times. So they’re very similar.
Vardenafil is thought to be easier to tolerate for men who have pre-existing health conditions or are a little older. But Sildenafil is a little bit cheaper, so there are pros and cons to both.
Not sure which one to go with. Take a breather. Consult with our expert clinicians. They’ll be able to help settle on the right treatment.
