Viagra Connect is Viagra without a prescription. It’s a rebranded version of Viagra 50mg, so it’s only available as a 50mg dose. It functions in the same way, and contains the same active ingredient, sildenafil.
Erections are caused by blood filling up a sponge-like tissue in the penis called corpus cavernosum.
If the blood supply to the penis isn’t strong enough, it can make it more difficult to get an erection. The active ingredient in Viagra Connect, sildenafil, allows the blood vessels around the penis to expand. This in turn improves blood flow to the penis, making it easier for you to achieve and maintain an erection.
What Viagra Connect dosages are there?
Viagra Connect 50mg is the standard dose for men. Although you’ve not got the same dosage options that you have with Viagra, Viagra Connect is a bit more accessible for some men because it’s a non-prescription treatment.
If you find you’re not getting the results you need from Viagra Connect, a different medication or the standard Viagra product might be recommended for you by a doctor.
Viagra vs Viagra Connect: what’s the difference?
The main difference between Viagra and Viagra Connect is that you need a prescription for Viagra. The upside for standard Viagra is you can get it in three doses rather than one. These are: 25mg, 50mg and 100mg. The main benefit of Viagra Connect is it’s more accessible.
Some men may find that the 50mg dose of Viagra isn’t strong enough and that they can’t sustain an erection with it for sex. Our prescriber can suggest that you increase the dose to 100mg in these circumstances.
Even though you don’t need a prescription to take Viagra Connect, you’ll still need to have a consultation with a pharmacy prescriber before you can use it, to make sure that it’s a safe option for you. Other than that, both products work in the same way in the body, and it’s just the packaging that’s different.

How to take Viagra Connect
The instructions for Viagra Connect are very easy to follow. Take one tablet one hour before having sex, swallowing the tablet whole with water.
You should not take more than one dose of Viagra within a 24 hour period. If you find that Viagra Connect doesn’t work the first or second time you take it, let your clinician know.
Viagra Connect does not work without sexual stimulation. In other words, it helps you to achieve and maintain an erection during sexual activity, it’s not an aphrodisiac.
If you experience any side effects, speak to your prescriber. Although it’s rare, some men get an erection that won’t go down on its own. If you have an erection that doesn’t go away after four hours, you should seek emergency medical attention.
Is Viagra Connect effective?
A lot of men find that it works on either the first or second use. In clinical trials, 74% of men reported that taking sildenafil (the active ingredient in Viagra Connect) gave them better erections.
It might be at the start of treatment that you experience side effects or that the medication doesn't work as you want. This might only need a change of dosage which you can get with prescription Viagra, so let our clinicians know if this happens.
How long does Viagra Connect take to work?
You should take Viagra Connect 60 minutes before you plan to have sex to be sure that the medication is at its most effective. Having said that, it can be effective in 30 minutes, although this will depend on a number of factors (such as severity of symptoms, your weight and how sexually stimulated you are).
You should avoid heavy and fatty meals before using Viagra Connect as this can slow down its effects significantly.

Erectile dysfunction: what is it?
Answer:
Erectile dysfunction (ED), or impotence, as it’s sometimes known, is when a man isn’t able to get an erection, or an erection that lasts long enough for sex. It’s thought that it affects around half of all men between the ages of 40 and 70 at some stage in their lives, so it’s a very common condition. This number could be even higher still, as many men don’t seek treatment for it.
ED is caused by blood vessels at the base of the penis being too narrow, and so there’s an insufficient blood supply to the penis. It can be triggered by a range of factors, including high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, being overweight, or excessive alcohol and drug use.
It can have a psychological cause too, such as stress, depression and anxiety.
Most men experience it now and again, and it can ‘sort itself out’. But sometimes, it can persist, and require some treatment to tackle it.
How does Viagra Connect work?
Answer:
The active ingredient in Viagra Connect, sildenafil, is something called a PDE5 inhibitor. PDE5 is basically an enzyme that causes blood vessels in the body to tighten.
By restricting PDE5 from doing this, sildenafil helps blood vessels to expand, which makes it easier for blood to reach the penis. This stimulates harder, and longer-lasting erections.
Can I buy Viagra Connect over the counter?
Answer:
Viagra isn’t a prescription medicine, but it isn’t really an ‘over the counter’ treatment either. It’s a pharmacy medicine, so you don’t need to consult with a clinician for it, and you can get it in pharmacies. But you still have to have a consultation with a pharmacist before you can buy it, to make sure that it’s suitable for you to use. So in effect, it’s not that different to a consultation with a clinician.
How long does Viagra Connect last for?
Answer:
Viagra Connect will stay active in the body for up to five hours. That means that the treatment is effective for up to five hours after taking it, giving you plenty of time to enjoy its benefits with confidence.
While it does require some planning, such as taking it an hour before sex, this window of time for its effects allows a great deal of leeway. If you need a treatment that lasts longer, there are options available.
Will I get side effects with Viagra Connect?
Answer:
Some mild side effects with Viagra Connect are common. Headache and facial flushing tend to be more common offenders. Drinking plenty of water or taking paracetamol can help to relieve a headache, and some men find facial flushing a reassuring sign because it helps them to know that the drug is working. But if you find these side effects troublesome, let our clinician know, and they may suggest trying a lower dose.
While more serious side effects are uncommon, if you experience side effects that are persistent, or cause you more discomfort, you should let a clinician know. They may advise you to try a different ED treatment, and can talk you through your options. Don’t worry, there are many Viagra Connect alternatives available.
In the event that you get any signs of an allergic reaction (sudden wheezing, breathing difficulties, feeling dizzy, swelling of the eyelids, lips, face or throat), an erection that won’t go away after four hours, or any other side effects that feel severe, you should seek medical attention immediately or go to hospital.
Is Viagra Connect available for women?
Answer:
Viagra Connect is a suitable treatment for men only and will have no beneficial effects for women.
There is a treatment that you can get called Addyi, which is sometimes referred to as ‘female Viagra’. It’s primarily used to treat a condition called HSDD (hypoactive sexual desire disorder) or low sex drive. Because Viagra Connect treats erectile dysfunction, the two products are very different.
Why should I buy Viagra Connect online with Treated?
Answer:
Getting tailored recommendations for ED only takes a few minutes. You’ll get to choose the treatment you want, and how often you have it delivered.
But it doesn’t end there. We’ll check in with you regularly afterwards to make sure your treatment is working well for you. And you can access our doctors and pharmacists any time, for advice or with any health-related questions you have.
