What are Xonvea tablets
Xonvea tablets are an anti-nausea treatment especially designed for use during pregnancy. It has two ingredients that help ease sickness and vomiting, so you and your baby can enjoy a healthier and happier pregnancy.
Some level of nausea is very common during pregnancy, especially during the first trimester. But if it’s severe, isn’t going away or self-care techniques haven’t helped for you, Xonvea might be a good option. It reduces nausea so that you can get the nutrients you need.
How do Xonvea tablets work?
The two active ingredients in Xonvea are doxylamine, which is an antihistamine, and pyridoxine, which is just the technical name for vitamin B6. Antihistamines reduce sickness and vomiting by binding to histamine receptors, which then blocks the ‘vomiting centre’ of the brain.[1]
Taking B6 during pregnancy also lowers nausea, and many pregnant women have been shown to be deficient in B6.[2] It’s also unlikely to cause side effects, since it’s an essential nutrient that’s in many foods. So these two medications together make Xonvea a specialised treatment for nausea and vomiting during pregnancy.
What doses of Xonvea tablets are there?
Xonvea only comes in one size, a tablet with 10mg doxylamine and 10mg pyridoxine. When you start taking Xonvea, you’ll usually begin on the lowest dose, which is two tablets a day. If this works to control your nausea and vomiting, you’ll likely stay on this dose.
If you still have nausea on the second day of treatment, start taking one tablet in the morning as well as the two in the evening. Stick to this dose if it controls your morning sickness. If you still need help with nausea, you might need to add another tablet in the afternoon.
Four tablets a day is the maximum dose. If this fails to control your nausea, you need to talk to a clinician about alternative options. Only increase your dose with a clinician’s guidance. If you order Xonvea through us, you can log into your account and message us whenever you have questions.

How to take Xonvea
You should always follow a clinician’s advice on how to take Xonvea.
- You should take Xonvea at around the same time everyday. Try setting alarms to help you remember;
- Take Xonvea on an empty stomach, not with food. Wait a few hours after you eat to take it;
- Swallow Xonvea tablets whole. Don’t crush them, chew them or break them in half.
How long does it take Xonvea tablets to work?
Xonvea is absorbed quickly and it’s long-lasting. So you should start to feel improvements the day after you take your first tablet. Xonvea reaches peak levels in your blood 5.5-7.5 hours after you take it, so the next morning your nausea should be much easier to manage.
What should I do if I make a mistake while taking Xonvea?
If you take too many Xonvea tablets, get medical attention right away. Having too much Xonvea in your body can cause worrying symptoms.
Don’t stop taking Xonvea suddenly. This could make your nausea and vomiting return and worse than before. If you want to stop taking Xonvea, talk to your clinician. They can help you with the easiest way to do it.
