What is Plaobes?
Plaobes is a weight loss treatment in a pen. Itโs a type of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist, or GLP-1, which works by mimicking your bodyโs natural hunger hormones to help control your appetite.
You inject Plaobes once daily. You usually start on the lowest daily dose (0.6mg), and work up through the available doses each week until you reach the 3mg maintenance dose.
Unlike some other weight loss injections, the pens all contain the same amount of medicine โ youโll set the dose you need with a selector switch on the pen itself.
How does Plaobes work?
Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists work by mimicking your bodyโs natural GLP-1 hormone, which plays a vital role in managing your hunger and digestion. Itโs released when you eat.
By mimicking this hormone, Plaobes reduces your appetite and increases feelings of fullness, as well as slowing down the rate food leaves your stomach. This means that you wonโt feel the need to eat as much, making it easier to create the calorie deficit needed to steadily lose weight.
What doses of Plaobes are there?
Plaobes pens are pre-filled. Each pen contains 18mg of liraglutide in 3ml.
The five doses of Plaobes are: 0.6mg, 1.2mg, 1.8mg, 2.4mg, and 3mg.
Youโll usually start on the lowest dose, and change your dose every week until you start using 3mg each day, which youโll remain on for the rest of your treatment plan.
Moving up through the doses this way means your body has time to adapt to the medication, and can reduce the chances of side effects developing.
How long does Plaobes take to work?
Weight loss doesnโt always follow a linear path, so thereโs no guarantees of how quickly Plaobes will work. But GLP-1s have been shown to work effectively at helping people balance their blood sugar and lose weight1ย when used alongside a calorie-controlled diet and regular physical activity.
Liraglutide, the active ingredient in Plaobes, has been shown to work effectively for weight loss.
In one study, 64.1% of patients lost at least 5% of their starting weight after 6 months, and 34.5 had lost at least 10%.2 In another trial of patients using liraglutide over a 56-week period, 63.2% had lost at least 5% of their starting weight.3
