What is Mirapexin?

Mirapexin eases the symptoms of restless legs syndrome; letting you sleep easier. It’s a tablet you take every evening. It treats the painful and uncomfortable sensations you feel in your legs and calms your urge to move around.

Mirapexin is used for people with moderate to severe restless legs syndrome. If lifestyle changes and other medications haven’t been enough to control your restless legs syndrome, Mirapexin might be a good choice.

How does Mirapexin work?

Mirapexin is made up of the active ingredient pramipexole. It’s a type of drug called a dopamine agonist, meaning it binds to the dopamine receptors in your cells and mimics the activity of dopamine. ^[1]

Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is thought to be caused by problems with dopamine production. So by acting like dopamine in the body, Mirapexin can help reduce your symptoms.

What doses of Mirapexin are there?

There are four different doses of Mirapexin tablets. It comes as 0.088mg, 0.18mg, 0.35mg and 0.7mg doses (although we only supply the 0.088mg and 0.18mg strengths). You’ll usually start on the lowest possible dose and see how well it does at controlling your symptoms. Your clinician can help you find the right dose for you.

Most people have their dose raised every 4-7 days until they find a dose that controls their symptoms. When you order from us, we’ll help you adjust your dose when you need to. All you have to do to get expert advice is log into your account and message us, wherever you are.

How to take Mirapexin

Always follow your clinician’s advice on taking Mirapexin.

• Try to take Mirapexin at the same time everyday. The best time for most people to take Mirapexin is 2-3 hours before bed.
• Swallow Mirapexin whole, without crushing or chewing them.
• Drink water with Mirapexin to help you swallow it.
• You can take the tablets with or without food. If you find Mirapexin makes you nauseous, having some bland food like toast with it may help.

How long does it take Mirapexin to work?

Mirapexin should start working pretty quickly. It reaches peak concentration in your blood just one to two hours after you take it, and it’s almost totally absorbed. So the relief it brings won’t take long to kick in.

If Mirapexin doesn’t control your RLS right away, you could just need a higher dose (especially if you’re taking one of the lower doses). The maximum dose for restless legs syndrome is six 0.088mg tablets.

What should I do if I make a mistake while taking Mirapexin?

If you forget to take Mirapexin, skip the missed dose. Take tomorrow’s dose at your normal time. Don’t take extra Mirapexin to make up for missing some.

Mirapexin makes some people very drowsy. If it affects you this way, make sure not to drive or use heavy machinery. It’s also not a good idea to drink alcohol while taking Mirapexin. Mirapexin can make you drowsy, dizzy or confused, especially when you’re new to taking it. Alcohol makes these effects worse.
