Aronix is a branded, prescription-free treatment for erectile dysfunction (ED) – a common condition that can make it difficult for men to achieve a strong enough erection for sex. It contains the active ingredient sildenafil (the same one that’s used in Viagra), but where Viagra is available in three doses: 25mg, 50mg and 100mg, Aronix only comes in a 50mg dose.
There’s a couple of reasons for this. One is that it’s usually considered the ‘go-to’ dose (because it provides a good balance of potency and side effects),[1] and the other is that it offers an alternative to Viagra Connect – Viagra’s prescription-free 50mg treatment.
Like Viagra Connect, you take it around an hour before you plan to have sex, and it lasts in your system for around four to five hours.
How does Aronix work?
When you become aroused, your body produces a chemical called cGMP that causes the muscles in and around your penis to relax, allowing increased blood-flow into your penis and giving you an erection. Your body also has a counter-process, though, which works to return your penis back to its normal state when you lose arousal. This happens because of the enzyme PDE5, which breaks down cGMP and reduces the blood-flow into your penis.
When you have an erection, it’s because the amount of cGMP in your system is more than the enzyme PDE5 can break down. But sometimes, due to factors that can vary from person to person, your body isn’t able to supply enough cGMP to your penis to negate the action of PDE5.
Sildenafil, the active ingredient in Aronix, works by lessening the action of PDE5. This can help you to achieve and maintain an erection despite having less cGMP than you’d normally need to.
It doesn’t completely stop the action of PDE5, though. When you lose sexual stimulation or arousal, you’ll probably still lose your erection.
What doses of Aronix are there?
Aronix is only available as a 50mg treatment, of which you should take no more than one tablet per day. If you feel like the 50mg dose of sildenafil in Aronix isn’t giving you the results you wanted, you might need to get a prescription for the stronger dose of either Viagra or generic sildenafil. Alternatively, you can also get lower doses of either of the above if Aronix is effective but gives you unpleasant side effects.

How to take Aronix
You should always take Aronix exactly as instructed by our clinician.
To take Aronix, simply swallow one tablet whole, with water, around an hour before you plan to have sex. Don’t take more than one tablet in the same day.
It’s not uncommon for Aronix not to work on the first day that you take it, and occasionally it doesn’t work for people until up to their third or fourth try. As a result, it’s important that you don’t take another dose of Aronix on the same day to try to make it work better if you aren’t having any luck; it isn’t likely to work, and it could pose a risk to your health.
If Aronix isn’t working for you after you’ve tried it a few times then you should let us know – it might be the case that you’ll be better suited to a stronger dose of sildenafil, or you might need to try another treatment.
How long does it take Aronix to work?
For most men Aronix gets to work within 30 minutes to an hour. Aronix won’t give you an erection if you’re not sufficiently aroused, though. You’ll still need to try to become relaxed and engage in foreplay to become erect.
If you still haven’t achieved an erection after a couple of hours of taking it, don’t worry. Because it lasts in your system for around four hours, you might have more luck if you take a break and try again.
What should I do if I make a mistake when taking Aronix?
It’s important to always take any medication exactly as instructed. If you’ve taken more Aronix than you should have done, seek medical help straight away.

FAQ: Aronix
Have something specific you want to know? Search our info below, or ask our experts a question if you can’t find what you’re looking for.
Can I get Aronix over the counter?
Answer:
Even though you don’t need a prescription for Aronix, you still can’t get it ‘over the counter’ either, like you can with drugs like paracetamol. You’ll still need to speak to a pharmacist before you can get it, so that they can make sure that it’s a safe and suitable treatment for you.
How is Aronix different to other treatments for ED?
Answer:
Most ED treatments need a prescription, whereas Aronix can be bought from a pharmacy, chemist or supermarket after a quick chat with a pharmacist. Aside from that, you can also get ED treatments that come as injectables, such as Carverject or Invicorp, creams (like Vitaros), or orodispersible tablets - like Vardenafil.
Most ED treatments are PDE5 inhibitors, but the active ingredients that they use can differ from treatment to treatment. So although sildenafil is the most commonly prescribed ED treatment, you could also get vardenafil, alprostadil or tadalafil. Each of these active ingredients has a slightly different way of working, and you might find that different forms and types of treatment suit you better or worse depending on your personal preferences and how you respond to them.
If you’re not sure which treatment could be best for you, have a chat with one of our experts - they should be able to point you in the right direction based on your health needs.
Is Aronix similar to any other treatments?
Answer:
The most similar treatments to Aronix are Viagra Connect and Liberize. All of these treatments contain the same active ingredient in the same dose, and they’re all available for you to purchase from a pharmacist without a prescription.
How long does Aronix last?
Answer:
Aronix should last in your system for around 4-5 hours. So if it’s not working straight away, you could always take a break and try again. Alternatively, one dose of Aronix won’t necessarily only work for one ‘session’. If you wish, your dose of Aronix could allow you to have sex multiple times before the effects wear off.
Is there a difference between Aronix and Viagra?
Answer:
In practical terms, not really. Although the pills might have slightly different ingredient lists and appearances, the same active ingredient in them both means that they’ll have largely the same effect in your body.
How effective is Aronix?
Answer:
Sildenafil, Aronix’s active ingredient, is a tried and tested treatment for ED - hence why it’s often the first treatment prescribed to people with ED. In clinical studies, the 50 mg dose helped 74% of men to achieve better erections, compared with 25% of those who took the placebo. [1]
