What is Colekal D3?

Colekal D3 is a form of vitamin D, but to understand its importance, we need to know what vitamin D is.

Vitamin D is an essential vitamin, one that we cannot live without. It plays a major role in keeping our muscles, bones and teeth healthy and low levels of it are linked to everything from depression to cancer.^[1]

Vitamin D can be acquired from exposing the skin to sunlight (in fact we get the majority of our vitamin D from the sun). In dark winter months this can become much harder, which is where Colekal D3 comes in.

How does Colekal D3 work?

Colekal D3 works by increasing the amount of Vitamin D3 (colecalciferol) in your body. Vitamin D helps to support your body’s function by increasing your levels of calcium and phosphate. It is available in different dosages, the smallest of which are used to prevent levels of vitamin D dropping to a degree that might impact your health.

But Colekal isn’t just for prevention. It can also help to treat severe deficiencies that can lead to serious bone conditions. In these cases you’ll likely need a prescription for the higher doses of Colekal, which are taken over a number of weeks.

What doses of Colekal D3 are there?

There are different dosages of Colekal that include over the counter supplements and high dosage prescription medications.

The most common supplement strength product is Colekal D3 800 IU (IU is the measurement of supplement potency) capsules, tablets and effervescent tablets. 400 and 1,000 IU tablets are also taken daily.

For treating vitamin D deficiency, available dosages are up to 20,000 IU, and include 4,000 and 10,000 IU. So you’re sure to find the right dosage for your level of vitamin D deficiency.

How to take Colekal D3

You should always take Colekal D3 as instructed by our clinician, and as detailed on the label. If you’re unsure, discuss it with our clinician. Vitamin D treatments should be taken daily, usually 1-4 times if you are treating deficiency, and then 1-2 daily doses to maintain good vitamin D levels.

Take Colekal with a large meal to get the most out of the treatment. Tablets and capsules are swallowed with water, while effervescent tablets are dissolved in a glass of water and drunk.

How long does it take Colekal D3 to work?

The length of time it takes for Colekal D3 to work depends on your current vitamin D levels, and the dosage that you take. If your levels are currently low, then it can take a while (usually a few weeks) ^{[1]</sup? for your vitamin D levels to rise back to the recommended level.}

Make sure you’re honest about your health with our prescriber to make sure you’re getting a dosage that works for you.

What should I do if I make a mistake when taking Colekal D3?

If you miss a dose of Colekal D3 – don’t worry. Just take the next dose at your usual time, and don’t double up the doses to make up for it.

If, however, you take too much Colekal D3 it can raise your vitamin D levels too high – which can be dangerous. Make sure you do not take more than the amount recommended by your prescriber, and if you notice any problems with your health when taking Colekal D3, stop taking.
