What is Strivit D3?

Strivit D3 is a vitamin D capsule that helps to maintain healthy teeth, muscles and bones. Vitamin D helps the body absorb and regulate calcium, a vital substance our bodies need. It’s especially important to take vitamin D supplements like Strivit D3 throughout the winter. This is because during this time our bodies get less vitamin D from natural sunlight, which can lead to deficiencies that harm our health and mood.

How does Strivit D3 work?

When you take Strivit D3, your body processes its active ingredient – colecalciferol – as vitamin D.

Vitamin D helps to maintain your calcium levels to prevent against bone issues like osteoporosis, but it also helps to boost your immune response and mental health.[1]

What doses of Strivit D3 are there?

Strivit D3 comes in three dosages: a maintenance dose and two treatment dosages, which are all prescription only. Strivit D3 800 IU capsules are the lowest strength and make up the maintenance or supplement dosage, while Strivit D3 20,000 IU capsules are the highest dosage product, and are prescribed for the most severe deficiencies. They’re taken on a weekly basis. A smaller treatment dosage of 3,200 IU is also available, which is usually prescribed for daily treatments.

How to take Strivit D3

The first thing to remember is to always follow your prescriber’s instructions when taking the treatment dosages. This will ensure that you get the most out of the treatment while minimising the risk of side effects. Each capsule should be swallowed whole, with water. It’s recommended that you take vitamin D supplements and treatments with a meal, which helps the body process it better.

Your prescribing clinician’s instructions are the most important instruction to follow, but there are some common practices for each dose. The maintenance dose of 800 IU should be taken daily, and the 3,200 IU capsules are usually taken once a day for a period of twelve weeks.

The 20,000 IU capsule is taken once a week for a period of seven weeks, although it’s sometimes prescribed to take monthly as a way to prevent deficiencies.

How long does it take Strivit D3 to work?

For more severe vitamin D deficiencies, it will usually take a few weeks to months for your vitamin D levels to return to their optimal levels, whereas if you are only taking the lower daily dosages to maintain your vitamin D, then Strivit D3 should work immediately to keep your vitamin D topped up.^[1]

What should I do if I make a mistake when using/taking Strivit D3?

If you have accidentally missed a dose,just make sure you take the missed dose with your next meal. Remember, though, not to exceed the recommended dosages that you’ve been prescribed, as taking too much vitamin D can be dangerous.

Most issues with taking too much vitamin D occur over a prolonged period of time, where the maintenance dosage has been exceeded over a number of months. This can lead to serious health issues and should be avoided. If you have taken too much of the stronger doses, seek immediate medical advice.
