What is Fultium D3?

Fultium D3 is a form of vitamin D that’s also known as colecalciferol. Vitamin D comes in various forms, but the main two are vitamin D2 and vitamin D3. For now, all you need to know is that vitamin D3 is the easier form to absorb and is the more popular of the two for preventing deficiency, keeping levels of vitamin D high, along with your mood.

How does Fultium D3 work?

Fultium D3 works by increasing the amount of vitamin D in your body.

Vitamin D is an essential vitamin, one that helps ward off cancer, heart disease, diabetes, depression and osteoporosis. Unlike most other vitamins and minerals, we get the vast majority of it with minimum effort, by exposing ourselves to the sun. Unfortunately, that isn’t always possible. What’s more, the darker your skin, the more likely you’ll have low vitamin D levels.

For areas where the days are short over the winter, it isn’t always easy getting the full amounts of vitamin D from the sun, which is where diet and supplements come in.

Usually you only get around 10% of our vitamin D levels from your diet, with eggs, oily fish and fortified cereals all helping, but without some supplements, such as Fultium D3, you are likely to still be short.

What doses of Fultium D3 are there?

In terms of which Fultium dose you’ll be prescribed, it depends on your circumstances. Doses like Fultium 800 IU (IU is the measurement of vitamin potency) are used to prevent low vitamin D levels from happening in the first place. It can also be used to maintain levels after treating low levels with higher dosages, as is the case with bone problems or hypothyroidism.

Fultium 3,200 IU can be used to treat the various conditions listed above, but it’s only available with a prescription for the first 12 weeks, after which, a new consultation will be needed. Fultium 20,000 IU capsules, drops and tablets are prescribed to treat these conditions for up to seven weeks, at one or two doses per week. You will then likely be advised to use the smaller dosages to maintain your vitamin D levels.

How to take Fultium D3

Instructions for taking Fultium are very simple, but will depend on the strength and form that it comes in. For example, stronger doses can be taken once or twice a week for seven weeks, while preventative dosages are taken daily.

There are also tablets, capsules and drops to choose from. Capsules and tablets should be swallowed whole with water, and you’ll need to follow your prescriber’s instructions for whether this includes one or more for each dosage. Drops should be dispensed on a spoon after gently shaking the bottle. Like tablets and capsules, the amount of drops will depend on the age of the person taking it and your prescriber’s instructions.

How long does it take Fultium D3 to work?

The length of time it takes for Fultium D3 to work depends on what you’re using it. If you are deficient in vitamin D, it can take a few weeks of using Fultium D3 for your levels to increase to an ideal level. Whereas if you are simply using Fultium D3 to maintain good levels of vitamin D and prevent deficiency issues, then the effects may be less noticeable, but it will be working to keep your body working well in the background.

What should I do if I make a mistake when taking Fultium D3?

Fultium D3 should usually be safe to use unless you take too much of it. So it’s important to use it as prescribed by your clinician. It can be dangerous to take too much vitamin D, so if you think that you have, then you should contact your doctor for advice.

Whereas if you have simply missed a dose, then don’t worry, this shouldn’t cause you any problems. Just take your next dose as you normally would, at your normal time.

FAQ: Fultium D3

Have something specific you want to know? Search our info below, or ask our experts a question if you can’t find what you’re looking for.

How is Fultium D3 different to other vitamin D supplements?

Answer:
As most vitamin D supplements contain cholecalciferol as their main active ingredient, they will work in similar ways to top you up with vitamin D. Fultium D3 requires a prescription, whereas most other supplements can be bought over the counter.

Fultium D3 is free from gluten and lactose, and also halal and kosher friendly.

Is Fultium D3 similar to any other vitamin D supplements?

Answer:
Yes. Any vitamin D supplements that use vitamin D3 as their primary ingredient will work in similar ways. Most vitamin D supplements use vitamin D3 instead of vitamin D2 because vitamin D3 is easier for your body to process than vitamin D2, and is thought to be of a higher quality.

Which version and dose of Fultium D3 should I use?

Answer:
Fultium D3 is available as tablets, capsules and drops.

In terms of how well they work, there’s no difference between these three treatments. Which one is best is really down to what suits you most. For example, certain capsules are not vegan friendly, while some people may have issues swallowing tablets and capsules, so drops will be more suitable.

For children, drops are the most suitable form of treatment, whilst tablets and capsules are not recommended for the under 12s. If in doubt, ask our clinician for advice, and you can always refer to the patient information leaflet that comes with your medication.

Do I need a prescription for Fultium D3?

Answer:
Fultium D3 is available on prescription only, so you’ll have to talk to us to assess if it’s safe for you to use.

Fultium D3 may cause side effects, and it can interact with other medications, so it’s important that a clinician takes into account any susceptibility to side effects that you may have, or any other treatments that you may be using, before prescribing this supplement.

Why should I buy Fultium D3 online with Treated?

Answer:
Whether you want the preventive dosage or the stronger treatment, you can buy Fultium D3 from Treated and get it when you need it. Once you’ve talked to us about your health, one of our registered clinicians will give you a list of the most suitable treatments available. From here you can subscribe to get your medication every month or three months.
